Every RV we’ve owned has had issues with waste tank sensors. Our new 2019 is already showing the black tank full after it has been emptied. We’ve tried various sensor cleaning products as well as some homemade remedies over the years with various rates of success. What has worked for others? Is there a good reliable process or commercial product? We use a hose wand occasionally which helps somewhat.

I have never tried it but friends have dumped ice into tank, drove around and emptied. I have always had good luck with tank sensor cleaners from camping world. Good luck

The key is lots of water and repeated flushes when the situation permits. Sometimes you have to dump and go but doing a rinse cycle or two when you can will get out a lot of extra crud.

Also, I'm a believer in driving from place to place with the black and gray a quarter full, with a handful of borax and a squirt of Dawn in the black tank, and a glug of Zep citrus cleaner in the gray tank. Dump when you get close to the stopping point and you have clean empty tanks ready to go. It's not a magic bullet but as an ongoing process I think it's a valid method. Just doesn't make sense to deal with chemicals all the time when water can take care of it.

We did the ice thing every time we dumped and were driving somewhere else. I sometimes also dropped a laundry pod (detergent only) in there at the same time. (We now have macerating toilets, so ice is not an option for us now.)Tank showed empty every time we dumped on arrival. No need to dump on arrival though if you’re on sewer. For everyday maintenance we are fans of Happy Camper. Keeps odors down at dump time seems to help with the decomposition of paper etc. we use the extreme version on our last drive home before putting the coach in storage, both tanks. Dump after the drive and it’s ready to sit for awhile.

I think it is all about the quality of the tank sensors the manufacturers use. We had a Komfort 5er after the first outing the sensors would read full all the time. Then we got a Alpenlite 5er, in the 10 years we had it never had a problem with the sensors same with our Country Coach going on 6 years.

25 y.o. moho sensors work fine. When wonky, run Camco whirligig down toilet. Rinse up and down and try to aim direction of sensor. Works every time (do far). Takes about 10 minutes to dump, run hose and whirligig thru window, rinse and replace.
