Black Water Vent to Tank Seal Leaks

Hi All,
I'm looking for some guidance, I noticed that my BW tank leaks where the vent pipe enters the tank, I can see the vent pipe when I open the side compartment where the tank sits, but its just out of reach. Whats the best method to seal this? Is it a gasket or caulk? Whats the trick to apply or replace a gasket that's out of reach?

Well obviously the caulk wasn't able to handle all the movement going on between the tank and the vent. I'd suggest Eternabond tape to seal and allow movement. You will have to cut a section of tape long enough to wrap around vent and place and wrap with tongs or get a kid or someone who can fit in the space.

Eternabond tape might be a good fix. Thanks for the suggestion. Mine fortunately is within pretty easy reach.

Thanks Bob, Ill look into the Eternabond Tape, this sounds like its going to be a challenge to get the tape wrapped clean and tight, I have about 6 inches of space between the tank an the compartment ceiling and the pipe is about 4 feet in from the door.

Actually any one of their products will do the trick. The stuff will stick to your fingers and anything else it touches. Use a stick to spread. I recently sealed mine. I actually used some pvc purple cleaner which really did the trick. This stuff is much better than any silicon which does not stick to many things.

Unless the old caulk is totally removed and the area made squeaky clean, I can't see Eternabond working very well in this situation. Your best best is a tube of high-end caulk with great elastic characteristics. ProFlex RV is one that comes to mind.

Of course a perfect repair would be to fix the connection to the tank the right way. I understand that getting to it is quite difficult tho.

YC1, The AG plumbing product worked like a charm, I used a mini roller with an extension handle to reach vent pipe.

You might try Rescue Tape. It sticks to nothing but itself. You stretch it to almost twice it's normal length and just go around several times. Originally developed for US military you can find it on eBay and maybe tractor supply type stores. It may be listed as silicone tape. It will allow slight movement/vibration without breaking. I bought one small roll and now can't live without 4 in different colors. Use it for battery cables (good up to 8000 volts) works better than shrink wrap for wires etc. When your done just cut it off and throw it away.

You might consider calling Newmar, many times there are access panels or plates in the floor to reach the unreachable. Best of luck.

Bob, I bet you will keep a tube of that stuff around now. It is amazing what it will stick to. Never thought of using a roller. I usually use tongue depressor sticks. That stuff is hard to get off your hands.
