Blowout
On the way back home from Fla last week we had a blowout on the passenger side inner rear. It took about 1 hour for road service to arrive because of the holiday (day after New Year). About an hour for him to change the tire, he had to beat it off. I wanted to get a new spare but decided to replace all six tires. They had to send a guy to Miami to get them since all the local suppliers were closed (holiday). So all in all we lost about 8 hours. The new tires were $1620 out the door.

Wow. I'm glad nobody was hurt. How old were the tires?

You list your coach as a 2003, were the tires original?

What size tire? $1620.00 for 6 tires is $270.00 a tire. Was the tire that had the blow out a recap?

@ wardy – Im sure they were as they were 10 years old.
@ Wizard – No they just put on my spare, I went to their facility to get the 6 mounted, balanced, and installed.
@ sdennislee – The new tires are Hercules H902 245 70R 19.5. And no the blow out was not a recap.

Just curious, what was your average speed before the blowout?

60 mph I normally do 65 but the traffic was getting thick.

When was the last time you had checked the air pressure on that inside dual before the blow out?
Installation of some dually valve stems that are solid metal will make it a lot easier.

Glad you and the rig or OK. Can't ask for more than that, except maybe faster service. That's one reason that I try to avoid traveling on the weekend.

But that wouldn't catch a slow leak let alone a fast leak. Even 20% lower than specified can cause an overloaded condition and blowout.
I check my pressures EVERY DAY before I leave. I did have a TPMS but I haven't used it for several years now as it lost the signal to the rear duals. I have never had a flat or blowout on an RV either but I'm really anal about tires!
Your blowout looks like a zipper blowout, usually caused by low pressure.

Before I leave a campground/home I always check the air pressure in all the tires. It takes me less than 10 minutes unless I have to adjust the air pressure in them.
