brand new and sooo much to learn

I have purchased, last Friday, a 2001 Fleetwood Discovery. My first Class A.
Just got it home and cant figure out how to get the stairs to retract once I have turned off the main switch.

Stupid question?

Did you leave the rv door open before you turned off the may switch?

Don't know about your rig, but "most" MH's have a step override switch. If it's turned on, the steps will stay out when parked. When turned off, they will retract and extend every time you open and close the door. Look for the override switch. Usually on the dash or on the passenger side arm rest. Sometimes in an overhead cabinet.

Otherwise, check the door contacts in the door jamb. They control the steps when the door is opened and closed. Sometimes the plungers get stuck, or if they are magnetic, they get dirty.

Good Luck.

A) the step switch, usually right in the doorway area, provides for either 1) Steps retract/extend each time the door opens or 2) Steps stay extended even with door closed

of course, anytime your turn the ignition ON, or crank it up, the steps will retract regardless

Mine is just inside the door on the right, along with the porch light and inside ceiling lights switches!

I just leave mine out now. I used to turn the switch OFF while standing inside and the door closed, then climb out without the steps.. Too much trouble.

Even with the battery disconnect, I leave the step button to on so that it retracts.

In most coaches, if you activate the coach and house battery disconnect switches the steps will not retract when you close the door. If you want to disconnect both battery banks you need to turn them off while inside the coach with the door closed. Of course now will have to exit the coach without stairs.
