Bridgestone R283 & Michelin Update

Hey folks. Hoping someone can provide some input here. We have attempted to order 14 Michelin XZA3 tires (2 motorhomes) for about a month now, and they continue to be backordered. According to the tire shop, they are still at least 3-4 weeks backordered, but who knows when they will actually ship. Unfortunately, we are in need of new tires prior to a long trip in April, and are now contemplating a purchase of Bridgestone R283 tires in 295/75R22.5 - H rating. Does anyone have any experience with these tires? According to Bridgestone, they are a direct comparison to the Michelins.

As a side note, according to the tire shop, ALL michelin 16-ply are currently on factory backorder.

Any input would be appreciated.

I just purchased 6 Firestone FS591 in 295/75R22.5 load range H for $2551.38 mounted and balanced. So far I am very pleased with the ride and handling. Bridgestone and Firestone truck tires are made in the USA in the same plant. Date codes were less than six weeks old.

I have run Bridgestones on long haul trucks with no problems.

We just purchased Bridgestone to replace the Michelins for the exact same reason you describe (long backorder time). So far after 5,000 miles we are very pleased with ride and handling.

Hi GatorJ,
Consider calling Michelin directly. Ask for the regional sales manager for your location. Tell that person about the tire not being available. Do not mention what the dealer has told you. See what the sales manager says. Go from there. For me, tire dealers are right there with auto dealers.

We had Bridgestone R280 tires, 295/75R22.5 - H rating, installed on the front of our coach last fall. We are very impressed with the ride and the handling with these tires.

I too just had Firestones put on my coach. Very Impressed! I have drove big trucks for years and yes Michelin is a good product and I have run alot of them.
I have also used alot of other brands including Bridgestone and have had great service from them as well.
I don't think you will be disappointed with Bridgestone, they are a quality product.

I agree with Gary...call around and I bet you'll find them with no problem.

Jeez yeah. 14 tires, what's that 8 grand??? If I were running the tire store, I'd be driving around finding those tires. If I couldn't find any I'd be calling the factory.

I got 6 Yokohama 16 ply 22.5 last fall for $2500. I like 'em much more than the Goodyear's I took off.

The Bridgestones appear to be good coach tires. I have 6 R250s on the drive & tag of my coach. About 4 years now with no issues. The R283 is a new design of the older R280. The new tire is a low rolling resistance design like the Michelin XZA2 Energy. You might consider going up to a 295/80 size. The ride is better and you can drop inflation pressure somewhat. All Michelin 295s seem to be in short supply so you would still need to consider the Bridgestone. The 295/80 Bridgestone is R250.

We are running 10R 22.5 Bridgestone tires over the past 8 years. Very nice ride and durability.

One caveat. If you use an alternate size, particularly a non metric size, in addition to checking clearance issues, be sure to check the weight carrying capacity of the tire. 10R size in LR G may have substantially lower load carrying capacity than a 295/75 and much less than a 295/80.

Thanks for the info.

However the 10R was the original size spec'd on the rig in 1995. It provides the full gross axle rating of the rig at 115 psi.
