So... Filtering out all the nay sayers and nervous nellies, how are you making out this morning?

If you in fact did head west towards Ohio you're out of the storm. Rt. 81 is totally engulfed.

Hopefully you have been able to find a place to plug in to at least get power to your furnace and a couple of space heaters.

Your engine will primarily charge the CHASSIS batteries. Depending on the coach, it may charge the coach batteries either at a trickle or a higher level of charge. On my old coach, the only high level of charge was from the 120VAC converter which required the generator...if the batteries were charged the engine provided a trickle charge that kept them topped.

My newer coach has an inverter/converter/charger which will keep all the batteries charged but not all coaches will.

Keep in mind that extreme cold temperatures will drastically lower the energy output of the batteries. The batteries are out in the cold weather.

Agree with the sentiments that you shouldn't panic and go running for warmer weather. You may need to park for the night where you can plug in or run your generator all night until you get past the extreme weather. The advice about things freezing below your floors is valid advice. Make sure your tanks and water lines below the floor have enough protection not to freeze.

Run your genny, get warm and form a plan. Nice thing about RV life is the ability to go where the weather is nicer.

We are all wondering what happened to you on this leg of your trip. could you please just advise us that you are doing well, or not.
I noticed that you got numerous negative scoldings, please don't think we all feel that way. Some of us are genuinely concerned, as this kind of thing could happen to anyone. Best of the best luck for the rest of your trip.

Yes I agree 100% with Judy!! RVing can sometimes be scary in good weather, let alone -4 degree snow storm!!

Awww. Thank you all for your concern. It was an easy choice for us to go west rather than hunker down and let the storm pass. We simply did not want to see any more snow! So we took PA turnpike to 71 out to Columbus , through Cincinatti, to Louisville. After 13 hours of driving (all Kevin) we stopped at a KOA and plugged in. This was at 9:30 at night and there was snow and a little ice so we got a little stuck.
As for the driving yesterday it was sunny but cold. Roads were perfect.
We're waiting to deal with the water issue until we're sure there should be no freezing issues. Still below freezing outside.
So we completely missed the storm. I called ahead to the campground in GA and they said there's a little snow but it's in the 40's today and melting. If need be they'll use their tractor to clear a spot.
Just now , in southern Kentucky we're seeing the first snowless landscape!
Maybe if it were the beginning of the season and we hadn't seen so much snow up north it would've been interesting to find a park and watch the storm go by.

In the end, we got to drive through some states we hadn't seen before. And hey! We just drove by the now famous Corvette "sinkhole" museum! Oh, and there goes Fruit of the Loom headquarters! Who's jealous now?!

Glad to hear you guys headed west yesterday. Sounds like your OK and headed to the right places. Although Atlanta is still having problems. Talked to my son, last night, who lives in Albany and they were just getting cold rain. Keep us updated with your progress to your destination and what problems you may have found in your coach. Kevin is a trooper ( 13 hrs ). Good luck, with the rest of your trip. Be safe and stay warm....

Good choice. It's probably a lot more enjoyable to see more of the country than to be under a mountain of snow or white-knuckling it through the ice. With the water: The worst case may just be that the line from the fresh tank to the pump blew. That shouldn't be too bad to replace or pay someone to replace. If it has been warm enough in that bay to thaw and you haven't noticed 80 gallons or so of water streaming out, you may be fine all the way around.
