Can someone tell me were the build date on the tires are at and which is the year and which is the month.

There should be 4 numbers on the sidewall of the tire that look like they have been branded into the tire. First 2 numbers are the week of the year and the last two are the year the tire was made.

I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

From the Michelin site:

The date when a tire was manufactured is located on the sidewall of each tire. Consumers
should locate the Department of Transportation or DOT code on the tire that begins with
DOT and ends with the week and year of manufacture. For example, a DOT code ending

with “0304” indicates a tire made in the 3rd week (Jan) of 2004. (See back.)
There is a cutoff date that any tire made prior uses a different date code but no idea of what that is.

Correct. So if the date code is 1201 the tires were manufactured week twelve of 2001.

Tires manufactured before 2000 have only 3 numbers. Get rid of them.

Don't get excited if you can't find the number, it only has to be on one side and, depending how they are mounted, could mean you have to get under the coach to read it.

How do you read one from 1999? would it be xx99? or xx9?

It would be xx9 with the "xx" being the week and the "9" being 1999.

You can't tell the decade. That's why they went to the 2 digit year code.

Thanks for the reply. I have 8 mitchlen XRV tires that still have the little "tits" on them, look brand new and the code is 389.... It was in storage for the last 9 years so I guess they are 1999 made. The Seller told me they were brand new so I took it as he just put them on.

They might be "brand new" as far as mileage goes, but way way old as far as dry rot goes. I'd get new ones.

Here is a link to a picture. This tire is 15th week in 2010 Check before they mount the tires....I bought a set of 4 from Toyota. The 4 they had in stock were 18 -20 months old. I had them order a set from their warehouse. I inspected them before they were mounted. My father went to buy a set for his toad. I reminded him to personally check the dates. When he asked they said they were good. Here a few weeks after he was home I inspected them and they were 3-1/2 years old....

That's the thing, there is no dry rot, cracks or anything that would tell you they are that old. I've already put on over a 1000 miles on them with no problems. I've got 8 of them so replacing them all is out of the question at this point. If one goes I will start by replacing the front 2 and work my way back to the tag axle.
