Building portable stairs for class A
I have small children that have cannot open the MH door without swinging out of the way of the door while holding onto the exterior grab bar. I'm afraid the door will catch them, they will just fall off of steps or rip the grab bar off the MH. I would like to build a secondary set of steps that would go to the left of the automatic steps that they can climb on and open the door without a balancing act. I would also like them to fit into a storage bay. Has any one done this or seen it done? I still want to use the kwikee steps and I have thought about just putting a step stool next to them but I would like something sturdy without having to buy the huge aluminum sets that I keep seeing. Thanks for your thoughts.

I saw something similar that someone had built. It was made with all flat pieces that slipped together via interlocking slots. Was easy to store and quick to set-up/tear-down.

On my class C the steps are to high so I built boxes,first one sets on ground, next one on top of that one, next on on first step.All steps should be the same height,make sure does not interfere with step retracting.

I had a similar problem with my daughter's two tiny step daughters ages 5 and 7 along with my grandson age 5.
I removed the screen door latch, attached an old school spring roller latch and a drawer handle down low enough on the door so the tiny tots can reach it without having to climb the stairs. I put another drawer handle on the inside so the door can be puled shut. You don't have to slide the little door open to access the latch which solved the never getting closed problem.

Here is an idea. When we stay in one place I add these extensions I made.
The top wedges in and is shorter to clear the locker door.
The bottom has a bracket underneath and slips over the lower step.
Mine are centered but you could offset yours to address your issue.
They are made from stair treads from the Home Depot.
I unplug the step motor to be sure they do not retract when in use.

Do a Google search for folding step stool. I have a 3 step aluminum model that folds flat, I use mine for cleaning the windows, doesn't take much room to store either.

Sparkette, any marine supply like West Marine will carry dock steps in varying sizes made of fiberglass or molded plastic. Light weight, very stable. Check at westmarine.com.
