Buying a New lot leftover vs buying used.

Hello everyone,

I've been looking at gas class A bunk houses, for the past month or so. I was speaking to a friend of mine about what I was looking for, and he strongly suggested I get a diesel pusher. I told him that DPs are too expensive, and he said to look for a good used DP around 4-6 years old.

So I started looking at both gas and diesel bunk houses and found a dealer wanting to sell a New 2015 Discovery 40G for 38% off MSRP (that is around $182K). I've looked for a used 40G on craigslist and RV trader and I'm finding used units with prices as much or higher then the new 2015! I'm finding 2011-2014 for $168K to over $200k. Wow do these really hold their value that well? I was hoping to find something around $120k-130k

Has anyone experienced this new/used value limbo?

When you are looking at used coaches they can ask any amount they want. That doesn't mean the coach is worth that much or what they will take for it.

You might want to check out PPL Motorhomes since they have a lot of coaches on consignment. Some of the owners are taking a beating just to get rid of them for various reasons.

PPL actually lists the selling price of sold units too. Don't see that often.
38% would not be unheard-of since 30% off MSRP seems to be the target for buying new.

Thanks guys. I will keep an eye on PPL motorhomes.

Just some observations I've made while looking at new class As...

My wife and I want a 40' or less Bunkhouse with a bath & 1/2, Res Fridge, and a king bed. I can find gas units that fit almost perfect, such as the Bounder 36H and Thor 37TB. When I look at DP units with the same or similar configuration they have the 340hp and 2500MH Allison, such as the Winne 38R and Forest River 340-38A. If you upgrade to the ISL engine and 3000MH Allison you loose either the bunks or the half bath.

Its strange that no one makes a ISL bunkhouse half bath.

I got 38% off on my 2015 Challenger this year. Other dealers had used 14 for the same price. At least with new you have the full warranty and you are breaking everything in.
