Hi RV-ers,

Would anyone care to give some input on possible purchase of an 2004 Alfa see ya gold? i have reviewed Alf group on yahoo and found a few things that are trying to deter me away, but the price i think is right, under 35k, model supposedly is in all working condition, very clean, heard that b4 though.

Has 33 k miles on it.

Anyone?

Welcome Ubootwo to irv2.
They have been known to have bad electrical problems.
I would stay away from it, bad news.

The one word that really scares me is "Supposidly". Without a complete inspection by a competant RV Tech, I wouldn't consider any used unit. Just foo many things to detect from a casual look about.

I looked at several alfa's for sale, 2004 to 2007. I was told by a salesman that there was a fiberglass problem that was refered to as fiberglass cancer. Researched and problem starts as small pin holes that are dark in color. Do not know which years this was a problem but I stayed away from alfa.

If you are looking for a DP get one with a side radiator, engine access a lot easier.

Check the roof REAL good. Screws tend to come out!

Not having seen the vehicle, I can't say for sure - but that is a lot of motorhome for $35 K. The engine and transmission alone are probably worth that much. If you've spent time on the Alfa owners forum, you already know the problems and most are not insurmountable. You could drive this thing for four years and give it away and still be ahead of buying a new unit and watching it lose $50 K in value as you exit the dealer's gate. The Alfa's have incredible storage inside and out, and the Gold is loaded with extras including the higher horsepower engine. The biggest complaint several years ago was the Air Conditioner which on some units would not perform well. Solution was a thorough leak proofing of both the ductwork and the coach itself. There was a guy somewhere down south that knew all the tricks and was doing it to almost every new unit sold.

For that price even if it is delaminating you could drive it awhile and junk it if you have to. Our friends delaminated, fix was $4000 and he traded it off for a Tiffin Phaeton . Another friend has Alfa not gold and the only problem was the frige, so it's a roll of the dice. Good Luck

At 35k, unless it has serious issues (including bad delamination already) it would be hard to go wrong. Especially if you don't tend to winter the rig in colder areas (I've read that it's moisture buildup freezing that causes a lot of the issues).

We too are looking at the alfa's. I really like the roominess and the layout of the units. We are fulltimers in a 1995 coachman that is not built for full time. Any input on the alfa would be appreciated. Peg

A lot of coach for the money. As with all used RV's make sure you know what you are getting into( good inspection of the house by an RV tech). The chassis is not such a big deal it will be going when the house falls apart. Just remember Afla is no longer so you have no tech support, or factory parts, and make sure you have all the factory manuals that came with the coach. As to the delamanation/fiberglass issues I would think it would be evident if it has it. Delamination is usually a result of water intrusion, though not always just keep everything calked/sealed good. As with any used coach it's a crap shoot do your research.
