Buying first DP

DH and I are moving from 5th wheel to DP. Looking at 09 HR Sceptor 42PDQ, Cummins 425 ISL, Roadmaster Raised rail chassis, tag, 31,000 mi. Dealer will fix minor things and put 2 new Michelins on front (GY-Rivering), other tires are ok (GY-08), will also change filters, fluids on motor, transmission, generator. Considering to make offer. Asking $173k, thinking there is room to come off that and considering 7% off that price is where this rig should be priced. Sound reasonable? Can you think of any pros or cons to this coach or chasis that I should be concerned about? This is big step! Thanks for your time. Appreciate any comments you may have.

Welcome to the forum.

Frankly that price sounds too good to be true for a 2009 42 foot DP. How did you arrive at what it should be priced at?

Low retail is $194k. Something is way wrong.

Details, details, details. Don't feel bad. My wife drops zeros all the time... leading to some interesting discussions.

I believe it's still a buyers market, the economy is just slugging along, lots of used units for sale.

If.....low retail is $194k and you can get it for somewhere around $270k.

If....you and your wife are OK with size and you like the floorplan.

If....the Dealer is prepared to change fluids and address any "other" deficiencis.

Sounds to me like you've found a wonderful Coach and a rig anyone would be happy / proud to own!

However.....if it was me, I'd hold back my excitement and enthusiasm for the rig until I had a professional shop inspect the chassis, suspension, drivetrain, jacks, etc ....& ... A professional shop inspect all the House systems (appliances, batteries, electrical, etc). A rig this large

Whoops...put my phone down and before I could finish or proof read, my wife decided to check email!

Anyway.... Should be $170k not $ 270k.

Finally a rig this large and sophisticated really needs to be professionally examined before you shake hands..., also, rather than squeeze harder on what appears to be a pretty good price, you might want to negotiate on an extended warranty?

Regardless, sounds like a great rig and worth the trouble to throughly check-out... Good
Luck.

I will have to agree with Jack. In the boat world its called a Survey. It will save you future dollars down the road. Something will go wrong! Have you driven it yet?
Be sure to inspect the undercarriage for rust, pait overs etc.
But once your sure its for you, you will really like it!

If it has AquaHot for heat/hot water get the dealer to perform the annual maintenance i.e. a new fuel filter, new fuel nozzle and clean the combustion chamber. Nothing like the first trip out and not having "furnance" heat or hot water.
