Can not get propane to MH from Tank

Propane problem with just purchased used MH.
Unit is a 1987 Georgie Boy Encounter.

When purchased unit was hooked up to external propane tanks and all was working fine with Hot Water, stove, and furnace. External tank was hooked through its own regulator to house line without MH reg in use and house tank was empty. When I got unit home I stopped and had 10 gal of propane put in. Vent was open on tank but did not blow propane. I then hooked up original house regulator and slowly opened the tank valve. Gages inside show 1/2 full LG ob both dash gage
and gage on kitchen counter.No propane in unit and do not hear air or anything. I open the tank vent and get air and then I crack the nut from the tank output before the geg and just get continuous air.
I am not sure if I should shut tank valve and disconnect at reg then open valve till I get propane gas. Maybe I should take unit back in and have tank filled.
Very new to RV problems but want to be sure of what I do.Any help appreciated.

Bruce,

LPG is something than a novice should not be fooling with.

I would recommend that you take the RV to a place that has the knowledge and experience in dealing with LPG and let them resolve the issue.

Could be an orifice in the regulator clogged up from being not used. Disconnect the line to the MH after the reg. If its going past the reg, then look for a shut off valve in the system.

Welcome to iRV2. Consider replacing the regulator. It is a cheap fix and a DIY repair. Regulators do go bad it doesn't take much to kill a regulator.

Can you explain what say--about getting air at the vent and tank output. Is there no odor? Did you remove outlet of regulator to see if any gas is getting thru? I gather there is no pressure or sound at the stovetop? I assume the tank was empty and sat for a long while prior to you purchasing? If the tank was emptied completely, maybe it has to be purged like a new one to get rid of the air that might be in there?

If you have gas getting thru reg and pressure inside at stove but not lighting, there is too much air in tank.

I forgot to mention that if nothing is getting thru reg, give it a couple of taps in case it is frozen from lack of use. If that does nothing, then replace it.

You might check to see if you have an electric cut-off valve connected to LP gas detector. If not so equipped, replacing the regulator should solve the problem. On any threaded connections, use proper LP sealing tape, not plumber's teflon tape.

Yes when I open the vent valve I just get air, no oder. I loosen the nut from the tank to the reg and still get air, no oder. At the stove I get notnig, no soud. The tank had been empty and he was running from external tanks through another reg. When I put propane in the tank I only put in 10 gal and got no vent gas which was open.

First I would take the outlet side of the reg off and see if anything (air or otherwise) gets thru reg? If it does pass gas, then you have a shutoff or blockage from there to inside MH. I would still take it back to where you bought propane and have it purged like the tank was new. You should have smelled the odor while you were testing.

mine was a bad regulator. part was only 35$ and the rv park I was staying in had it in stock

If you have 10 gallons of LP gas in the tank, it should be detected when you open the vent on the tank. If you don't smell anything, my next question is, what's the outside temp? It won't outgas if it's a summer mix in Winter cold. I'd think you'd still smell it though.

LOL it is not often I agree with Richard but in this instance he is right on the money. Take it to a professional and have them work on it. If you do not want to go to a RV repair shop look for a place that sells propane to rural residents. Most of them have repairmen that work on tanks, regulators etc.
