My goodness! I have a Texas CHL and and have a Glock in our MH but, after reading all this, I may just leave it at home! We have been RVing for 35 years with travel trailers and have never been stopped but apparently driving a MH increases ones chances.

I will be attending the class for my concealed permit on 1-28-12. I believe that sooner or latter I will need it. It's a sign of the times.

As far as I know, I am a law abiding citizen, However new laws come out every day, I am not aware of all the laws on the books....

I will give you an example, I eat a lot of tums. I buy big bottles and then pour 25 or so into a bag with a couple acid reducing pills and a couple prilosecs and keep the bag in the glove box of my car, truck and rv. I found out recently re-packaging drugs is a crime and you can be arrested for it. So a cop who searches my vehicle could find this bag and arrest me for it.

Because of these types of silly laws being added to the books everyday, it is not safe to allow a cop to search you or your vehicle. I would say no to a search of any of my vehicles or home.

The Fourth has been overruled by the WA State Supreme Court. Which they shouldn't be able to do, but they have anyway.

I am 60 yrs old. My only experience related to vehicle search happened the other day. I was driving to work at 3:30 am and pulled over by Sheriff. He asked for my DL and I informed him of my CCL. He asked if I was alright, I said I was tired from working a lot. He stated that I looked edgy, whatever that means. He asked If he could look in my pickup truck. I asked why. He said because I looked edgy. I said I didn't want to be late for work and asked what would happen if I refused. He said never mind and gave me back my DL and CCL. Interestingly he didn't ask me if I had a weapon.
He was very polite and I was too.

And the WA State Supreme Cout has ruled that it is within the law to search the vehicle "for officer safety" during a traffic stop.

I never said I agreed but it is the law here in WA.

Only when parked and hooked up to utilities. Otherwise it's a vehicle, capable of being moved easily.

Unless it's been decided differently by the State Supreme Court as it has in WA. That's the law in WA until someone takes it to SCOTUS, which no one has yet.

JManatee...

You are correct about having drugs in non-labeled containers/prescription bottles...BUT that only goes for prescriptions drugs/controlled substances. Technically the pill organizers (like the ones my parents used) would fall under the non-labeled containers but common sense and the type of drugs should also come into play (i.e. Oxycontin vs. High Blood Pressure medicine). You certainly would have nothing to about with the pills you mentioned. At least that is the case in MI and FL where I have worked in Law Enforcement.

Most police officers will apply the common sense test to the situations they run into and most people in Law Enforcement in my experience really are in the business for the right reasons. Having said that, just like every profession or group of people out there…each has their fair share of dull pennies and bad apples…

I've just spent an hour looking at the State Supreme Court decisions, man what a read!

Anyway, it still appears that a LEO has the right to do a limited search of your vehicle during a traffic stop for "officer safety". He is limited to what is in reach of the driver and then only for dangerous weapons. Anything else discovered will be suppressed. But the LEO can still request a search warrant if necessary (drug dog called and it alerts, etc).

I have been reading this thread with interest. My question is, has anyone been in on of the TSA road stops? where there is no 4th ammend. I understand there have been over 9000 including bus and train stations and road stops, in a surprise raid.

Not necessarily true. I've done several searches for weapons and found drugs there instead. Never had a problem in court, because I did it the right way.
