"Do you have any pornography in your unit?" This question from some young lady the size of a neighborhood fire plug. And I do mean 'tossed.'

Of the four of us, I was born in Canada but hadn't been there for years, one had, two never. Going through the boarder at (roughly) 0530 ... we were all California residents at the time.

'Where did you spend last night?' Gave him the RV park receipt from 2000 the night before.

'Why are you coming through the Boarder so early?'

'Because we have to get to the RV park (no hook up, dry camping with water and pit toilets. But clean, clean, clean.) early as our Fishing Guide is picking us up at 0800 (or 0900?) this morning.'

"Plug" asks who owns the unit? 'Me.' Points at one of the other guys, who save for this trip had never been inside the thing, and a pointie finger and: "You come with me."

I'll skip the rest, never been back, and never will.

Oh, the DVD's ... I'm sure that when 'she' found the 'Shreck 1' and that's exactly what it was ... major disappointment for 'fire plug.'
Have had similar experience going South. Border Guards on either side can be &*^holes.
It's their job. They both have a rule book and love to show you how to read it.
Did not stop me from going back to the USA though.
We will miss you.................................

It can happen both ways. One time when I was crossing over the border to catch a flight from Seattle to the West Indies, the customs guy going through my luggage asked me "how does a guy like you afford to go to the West Indies". What was that supposed to mean? I was tempted to tell him that unlike himself it was because I had a good job, a university education and more than 2 brain cells to rub together. Fortunately, discretion won the day. It doesn't pay to insult a guy that can compel you to a cavity search.

Deisel is $1.18 a lt which is roughly $4.80 a US gallon.

There are 3.78 liters in a US gallon for those that are calculating the cost of diesel. The price per liter in Alberta today is as low as 1.019.

Actually a tad less than you'd pay (per gallon) here in southern Oregon.

Returning from Canada - no produce

We made the mistake of going to a Costco in Halifax, NS and loaded up on fruits and veggies. I think all those items came from the USA, but the US border guards confiscated them any way. We especially hated to see our bag of California avocados hauled away.

Also, the Canadian guards were very focused on whether I had any amunition on board. They did search for that even though I told them I had none. It was really a cursory search because they didn't look at any of the places I would have hidden it.

Alberta has it's advantages, today diesel is 109.9 per liter, multiple it by 3.78 to get the CDN price per US gallon and then take 5% off for the exchange rate. It is a great time to travel Alberta!

You may, however, take a flare pistol witch is what I did along with wasp spray.

You are also limited to 10k in cash. We were boarded once coming out of Skagway and had to count the money for him and was then asked to go to the office. Did not find anything out of place when we returned.

Think your attitude toward them will be the deciding factor.

Hava a safe trip.
What kind of permit would you need for a shotgun since none are required stateside?

Denise and I just got back from a long trip where we crossed the US / canada border numerous times. We did not have any problems with any of the agents we talked to from either side. The young American border lady in Maine had Denise and I in stitches laughing at her mannerisms.

Also to save time if you're headed into Canada going north on I-5 take the 543 Truck Route crossing as it is usually much much faster and it is probably within sight of the Peace Arch crossing.
