Car Fax for an RV

Car Fax does not have an extensive data base on RVs. So how does a buyer of a used RV protect themselves against an unscrupulous re-seller - dealer or private individual - who is reselling a previously majorly damages coach???

Get a qualified inspector to inspect before you buy.

We got are Car Fax when we bought our 2004 in 2012. It covered the running gear but not the coach equipment.

Few Rv repair shops make the reports that Carfax gathers, so there usually isn't a lot of data. Mine contains mostly entries from Dept of Motor Vehicles recording changes of title, registration, that sort of thing. Plus a couple entries from my "service plan" (extended warranty) to note they had paid for a shop repair (no details provided).

What Gary_RVRoamer said. When we bought our 2005 we pulled a Car Fax and all that it listed was the county in which it had been registered by the previous owner. But maybe that's a good thing? \ken

I use auto check, a car fax competitor. It allows me to find out where the rv has been registered.I can tell if it has sat un registered for any length of time. I also found a great deal on craigslist that ended up being fire damaged, salvage title. The add said nothing about that.
