Unhappy Carefree electric door awning problems

Today we pushed button to open over door awning and it flopped fully open.

The retract motor runs but does not engage the awning. Have never taken one apart but did down load the service manual.

any suggestions on problem before I start as I am not very mechanical, but would like it closed!!

Thanks in advance for your responses.

The gear on the end of your motor broke, they have a new style now. Mine shot out going down the freeway like a bat wing I had to close it and put a big zip tie around it till I got home. You can remove motor while it's up and splice wiring or remove and repair like I did.

With the awning extended, look for a label on the inside of the cover (the part that moves in/out.)

Call Carefree with that number and they will tell you the motor part number.

They do not sell direct, only through dealers, of which one is Amazon.com.

My motor number was R00189, but I couldn't tell from the awning picture at Amazon.com as the motor fits more than one style. $83.05

Motor with new style metal end.

The included guide walks you through the replacement/adjustment process. You will need to remove the awning assemble first.

Smile Thanks to all who helped

I took the awning motor apart. Had to as the three screws turned out to be three rivets. Emailed Carefree to get part number. The plastic drive hub and crown were broken on non motor end. Motor seems to work fine (one way).

I tie strapped it back together so it is closed. Will await part information on new motor kit. I am parked in Edmonton Alberta but leaving to start south for winter at end of month so may have to just leave with two tie straps to hold together till I get parked again. Was told it could take 4-5 weeks to get parts.

Could not have tackled this problem without all of your help and information.

Thanks very much, it is really appreciated.

Broken crown

Motor drive end and crown

Amazon.com delivered mine in three days. I checked amazon.ca and found no listing. You may have to wait until south of the border.

I have this same broken crown/ drive piece. Am I correct in assuming that I can't just replace the broken parts but must buy new motor?

Awning motor

Yes, it seems the only way. I exhausted all other avenues.

Just a little more costly but relatively simple

Best of luck.

Ordered the motor from Amazon. Delivered 24 hours later. Installed 2 hours after that.
