My engine is also a 1998 in a 1999 built 12/98
You will have no problems as long as you make sure the CAC and Rad are kept clean
of oil and dirt.
There are a couple of upgrades that should be done also.
My engine has be upgraded to 396 hp without any problems.

If you are at a dealership that can't find the data plug, you are going to have more problems when asking for the upgrade.
Think of it this way-the doctor asks how to take your temperature and what thermometer should he use-hmmmm.
