I have tried 13 in the past and never received a response. Will try it again. Usually run 19 with low volume to listen for any traffic conditions.

Just got back home from Camp Freightliner. I have a Uniden 980SSB, and scan 9, 11, 13 & 19. Never heard a word on 13. 19 isn't like it used to be in the old days either.

Just ran round trip to iowa and never heard a word on 13 either. Did find something interesting though, my gen creates a decent amount of radio disturbance on the cb(for lack of better wording) when it's running. Is that normal?

Send a message via AIM to stearn
Here it is one year later that I responded to this post. To up date my experience this past trip traveling turnpike in Ohio, then tolls through Indiana, and Chicago going north in Wisconsin, to the UP, then to Northern Mi, and returning home in lower Michigan . All the driving time with cb on channel 13 the only other RVer I heard was the folks we were traveling with, and an occasional trucker. Channel 13 seems mighty quiet !! I did try to make contact to a couple rv's.

I have an "induced RF supressor" on my unit to stop the ambient noises caused by the RV motor and the generator. I have a [CB13" decal on the back of our unit and have been contacted by others, including lonesome truckers wanting to chat. eARLIER THIS YEAR i WAS ON THE Canadian Prairies and had a lot of cross channel interference on my radio. On investigation it was a group of RVer on 12 all babbling away to one another as they headed west going to Alaska.

Check eBay for CB noise suppressor or interference suppressor. Rat Shak might have it, but won't be of any help in using it anymore. Let me say Hi to this thread, and introduce myself, Starsekr, and I have a Cobra 75 series radio, but because of the background noise in the RV I almost never use it. We just finished 6 months on the road from CA to ME via I-40 and back via I-90/80 and in my 2 or 3 hour sample on the air I think I heard maybe 3 or 4 chats from actual travelers.
How do you handle operating in the high ambient noise of an RV? Get something like a David Clark headset?

I turn the volume and squelch up until the ambient RF is gone and then only chat with people who are close by and traveling with me. The RF suppressor is easy to install and use.
