CB channel 13

I recently bought a Cobra 29LTD Classic and am very surprised at how there is hardly anyone on a CB anymore. Just dead silence most of the time. I had it tuned at a CB shop in Amarillo and it is working just fine. I have a buddy who is a trucker and he said it's dead air most of the time on 19. So I will be on 13 now on when traveling.

I went out to the MH to see if it was as quiet as some claim and there was just dead air.
I keyed the mike to see what was going on and to ask for a radio check and there was a funny snapping poping sound and then I realized I just let all the CB smoke out.

Not supposed to let all the smoke out on an electronic appliance.

Darn. I need to replace my CB.

This is a great idea in theory but I can tell you that the typical trucker these days are using far more than the 5 watt limit that the FCC set. Typically most truckers are using 3, 4 500 Watts by attaching a Linear Amplifier, so if we were on channel 13 or any other channel for that matter, they will be heard over all 40 channels.
It is more involved and most would not want to bother, but using 2 meter or 10 meter, this is what's called Ham Radio, then we could talk 100's of miles. I know this is unrealistic as, this requires licenses and expensive equipment.
Lets all get Nextel type phones, Push to Talk.

Just talking here, it is frustrating, years ago, CB was great, people were nice, now its roger beeps, dings, dongs, Ba Ba Boey and anything else that could be annoying.
Maybe Beflinn has the right idea, audio books.

Another good idea, years ago I had bought this paddle with ring binders on it and it had pre typed sayings on it, Like "Hey Your Cute", "Move Over", and some other expletives. LOL Did anyone have one of those?

Silence up I95 last Friday then I26 just this side of Spartenburg, a trucker alerting others to a DOT presence. Then nothing on to Bryson City. I suppose it's become another rotary telephone.

Us too! As a matter of fact, when the power goes out in the area due to storms, it's the only phone that still works. Thing must weigh 10 pounds.

I'll try it the next time we're on the road. Usually run on 19, but it's dead most of the day.
