Change from 2 6 volts to 1 12 volts

I have to change our coach batteries. Someone at a bettery store advised me I should install 1 12 volt Deep cycle isntead of the 2 6 volts that I currently have. Whats the opions out there?

I think you need to explain what you normally do with your RV .... boondocking vs. on shore power, etc.

First make sure it is a true Deep Cycle and not a Marine deep cycle. Second, make sure your not giving up amp hours. From what I have been reading on this and other forums, the best bang for the buck is two 6 volt golf cart batteries. They are true deep cycle and typically cost less for the amp hours provided.

Ask the "sales guy " to back up his statement.

He should be able to show you the manufacturer data sheet and explain exactly how the different configurations work, the expectation and capacity.

Deep cycle is needed.

If his head turns like the dog when they hear a noise then ask for someone who knows what they are doing.

The name of the game is amp hours. If the battery being suggested has the same or a higher rating and will fit the battery compartment there is no reason not to do so.

but maybe you can explain to me why verification is a bad thing ?

and you're worried about the bandwidth ?

Worry about bandwidth when you become a supporter ... or an admin !

Selah is right on the money.

I am doubtful that you will find better performance from a single 12V battery than you will get from a pair of 6V golf car batteries. A pair of Trojan T105's (or equiv, like the Costco brand) will give you about 450AH of storage. Make sure the 12V battery he is suggesting has similar capacity.

I replaced mine with a new Costco pair for about $140, and they have performed flawlessly (once I got them hooked up right )

generally one way to also identify a better battery all things being equal is weight. lighter= thinner plates......heavier = thicker plates (better to withstand discharging/charging cycles). also what ever someone suggests do a product review to get user views. the best i know is irv2.com people here are really sharp and helpfull.

If you boondock often or stay at walmart. You need the capacity of the two six volts. We never boondock. My wife would never stay at Walmart or Flying J, so I went with one twelve volt, to save weight and money.

I will bet the salesman does not sell 6 volt batteries but has plenty of 12 volt batteries to sell you.

Go to Sams club or Costco and buy 2 golf cart batteries, down the road you will be glad you did.

Agree. Two six volts are better than one 12 volt.

just a thought but if the, what they call deep cycle 12 volt , where any good they would use 12 volts in golf carts. they don't. and golf carts get a pounding charging and running down. and this is one reason we use them in our rvs. it's all about cycles.
