Cheap Gas

We have been traveling out west and always shop at Safeway for groceries. A lot of safeway stores also have gas pumps and you build points when you buy groceries. It is only good for the month. In one spot we saved 50 cents per gallon and yesterday we saved 30 cents. We use it for our toad when we go sightseeing. Now that is a good deal and you need the groceries anyway, Shop Smart.

The local Kroger stores have a similar plan. You get $0.10 off per gallon for every $100.00 of groceries you buy, it is good at their pumps and at Shell too, and the points carry over to the next month. Here in Louisiana, they only let you cash in 100 pts. at a time, If you are in Texas They allow you to use multiple lots of 100 and get bigger discounts.

There's an app called GasBuddy that will show you the prices of all the fuel stations in your area. Very handy when traveling.

I suggest that you redeem your Kroger points at Shell Stations. You will definitely receive a better quality gasoline!

I walked into a Shell in SC about a month ago and the clerk said "What's UP?" I told him I did not know, but I knew what was DOWN, the price of gas.. handed him my Bi-Lo card and BEEP 93 cents came off the cost of each of 20 gallons of gas.. Went back 3 weeks later and got another 20 gallons (not quite as good a discount)

Wal*mart.. If you go into the store and fill up a gift card year around the Murphy's gives you 3 cents off if you use the card and from time to time, TEN. Now happens to be one of those times. ON this motor home the limit is 82.5 gallons. 70 for the house and 12.5 for the towed,, Of course Id be a bit scared if I took that much gas (That would mean runing out on the car as I hooked up and the motor home as I pulled up)

if you buy a gift cart at Kroger on certain days, you get 4x points, so buying a $100 restaurant and or $100 lowes card gets you 40 cents off per gallon up to 35 gallons. So if you plan to eat out anyhow or spend money at a big box, why not?

Fuel Program

  • How does the fuel program work?

The fuel program allows you to receive savings of up to $1 off per gallon on fuel purchases at Kroger and 10 off per gallon at participating Shell Stations. You may redeem 100 fuel points at participating Shell Stations for a 10 off per gallon savings. And you may redeem up to 1,000 fuel points in a single fill-up at Kroger. For each increment of 100 fuel points redeemed at Kroger, 10 off per gallon will be awarded. Program discount is good for one purchase of fuel, up to 35 gallons. Credit and debit card fraud prevention policies may limit transaction at the dispenser. Offer cannot be combined with any other discounts.
    For example:
    • 100 fuel points = 10 off per gallon of fuel for 1 fill-up at participating Shell Stations.
    • 100 fuel points = 10 off per gallon of fuel for 1 fill-up at Kroger.
    • 200 fuel points = 20 off per gallon of fuel for 1 fill-up at Kroger.
    • 1,000 fuel points = $1 off per gallon of fuel for 1 fill-up at Kroger.
  • How do I earn fuel points?

There are three easy ways to earn fuel points in Kroger stores every day:
    1. Spending on Groceries (normal exclusions apply): $1 in Groceries = 1 fuel point.
    2. Double fuel points for Gift Card purchases (normal exclusions apply). For example, $25 in Gift Cards = 50 fuel points.
    3. Non-federally funded Prescriptions: 1 Prescription = 50 fuel points. a. As of August 1, 2012, federally funded Prescriptions earn 1 point for every $1 of your out-of-pocket costs for new, transferred and refilled Prescriptions.
There was a recent notice from Clark Howard on saving up to .15 per gallon at wall-mart for fuel, here is the link;

Winn Dixie does this with Shell stations. A while back I got my 20 gallons for less than $2 a gallon. I have a Shell station less than a mile away. Sams Club usually has the cheapest, but you burn up your saving going back and forth to it unless I am about empty. At 7 MPG I figures I would burn up 4 gallons going to it.

And out west we have Fry's food stores, which is in the Kroger family. So, the same program as Kroger is here at the Fry's stores
