We can add our new Class A to our existing Auto policy and get the benefit of really good coverage including our umbrella policy limits.

Problem is, no 5 year full replacement coverage, just depreciated market value.

I would like to put the Class A on our existing auto policy for the liability benefits and go with another company for the 5 year full replacement feature, without the lesser liability coverage.

Is this possible

OK, no quandry after all. I went with a liability and comprehensive policy with Progressive, thru Gilbert RV insurance and linked it to my auto/homeowner's umbrella policy for additional coverage.

My local agent set me up through Progressive. He had better rates than what I was quoted over the Internet. You can add your cars to the policy too if you want. You can have different limits on different vehicles. An agent can work this out better than trying to do it on the web.

There is an agency associated with Alternative Resourecs in SD that can help you.

You may also try Escapees.

Sounds like your are doing your homework. As an insurance agent we do not use our car carrier for the same basic reason and cost is usually a lot less through the speciality (Gilbert, Explorer, RV Alliance, Twin Peaks, Good Sam, Camping World) Agency. You can buy 500,000 or the PUP required underlying limits and your PUP will still apply and they may charge you an additional premium because your primary coverage is through another company. Some of the specialty carriers are now selling PUP's along with the MH policy.

Scooter:
If your Umbrella is a "Stand Alone" policy it should be no problem, make sure you advise them of the new purchase and name the underlying carrier and the limits.

I have a feeling however that your "Umbrella" is part of an auto/home package and as such there may be underwriting limitations that might apply.

As an old claims type, I feel the physical damage coverage should be with a specialised carrier who knows motorhomes and how to deal with them. Replacement cost is likely something you will only find with specialist carriers, much like marine insurance.

Check with your current broker or carrier, they should set you on the right track in a jiffy. Good Luck.

I am a Farmers agent in Chicago area, most umbrella policies will allow another carrier to cover the underlying policy (liability and physical damage) on your motorhome with an upcharge to your umbrella premium. Farmers owns Foremost insurance which is one of the best specialty companies in the industry. Foremost is not the cheapest but has far superior coverages than most insurance companies. Give them a try.

Interesting discussion...I've used State Farm for my cars, boat and my current RV. When I compared to Progressive, State Farm always beats them. For example, I'm getting ready to insure a 2002 Winnebago Journey. State Farm quoted $627 annually, and I'm linked to my State Farm umbrella laibility policy. Progressive quoted $807 for same coverage. Both were at $1,000 deductible.

When I bought my current rig, State Farm beat Good Sam which uses GMAC.

I also have State Farm on my Class A. I got quotes from the major RV Insurance suppliers and saved about $800 per year with State Farm. I don't have replacement cost coverage, but I do have $100 Ded Comprehensive and $500 Ded Collision because the premium was low enough to allow this coverage for about an extra $100 per year. One windshield will cover several years cost.

For the Farmers agent in Chicago: Between my private vehicles (4) home, boat, MH, and business with 4 trucks, I generate close to $20,000 a yr. in premiums. My agent switched my MH to Foremost, annual rate is $804.00 not full replacement. It is a 2002 Gulfstream 37' class a, live in the Greater Seattle area. How come it is almost $200.00 higher than the other Foremost quoted here? Supposedly, all kinds of discounts are applied because i have all my eggs in one basket?

Ask your State Farm Agent if you are getting an ACV policy with contents and campground liability and if Replacement Cost/Stated Value is available. Your specialty carrier quote probabley includes it. As a side note some major insurers exclude coverage if you are a full timer.
