This goes out to the FTer's in the forum. Are the leveling systems in a 40' coach able to lift the coach high enough to change a tire? I've read a lot of posts about tires and carrying spares and all that. No one seems to answer that question.

Ours is a four point HWH system, each ram is rated for 12,000#'s and the rig weighs a little over 32,000#'s. The answer in our case is YES. However you do have to be careful not to get both sides of the rear axle off the ground as the MH can roll.

We carry a spare but not the 250 ft lbs of torque needed to even loosen the lugs. The spare is unmounted so we would rely on a roadmaster service truck to mount the tire and using their jack to change the tire.

Do not EVER try to remove a wheel with just an on-board leveling system. I've had electric jacks fail and any leak in the hydraulic system will drop the HWH type hydraulic systems so fast you can't get out of the way. We carry a 20Ton hydraulic bottle jack and then put the leveler down if I have to change one on the road. At home I use heavy duty jack stands as well as the leveling jacks or the 20T jack. Always 2 systems. We carry a 600 ft lb torque wrench, the appropriate socket and extensions and the tools necessary to dismount and mount a tire on the road. If I can get Coach Net to mount and install my unmounted spare I carry, I will, but I can do it myself if necessary. We go to some very out of the way places where phones and other comm gear is non-existent.

Harbor freight has an air over hydro with 20% off it pretty cheap and good enough for some thing to carry on the coach.

Mine has no trouble picking up any of the tires. Should you use the leveling jacks to change tires,they say no. I have seen a local big truck tire store do it numerous times though. As for carrying a spare I don't for 2 reasons a 29580r22.5 weights a ton and no were to put it. If I did carry a unmounted tire and could not get a tire service what good would carrying a jack and torque wrench be.

Forget about jack and tools needed to change a tire.
Money more well spent on ERS. It also comes in handy if your motor or transmission quite's and you need a tow.

My jack system has more than enough capacity and extension to lift the coach. If I had a mounted spare I could probably, maybe change a front but with a rear and how deep the lugs are I would have a rear hard time getting the lugs off without air tools. If you have the room an un-mounted spare somewhere, an ERS subscription and a cell phone is your best option.

Also my one flat so far the tire cost me double delivered and installed on side of the interstate then it would have at a tire shop. $.20 valve stem o-ring, $500. Didn't have a TPMS at the time but do now.

How does it roll with four jacks planted on the ground? You would need a bulldozer to move mine!

Ours take 500 ft lbs and I carry a torque wrench and multiplier in the rig.
And yes the jacks can be used to hold the rig up to do a tire change. Did it a few weeks ago in fact. Worked fine.
The info about lifting the rig with the jacks I posted earlier came direct from HWH support.

The HWH straight acting jacks have a pivot at the top, the rig can and will move sideways. Almost took out a power pole one time but luckily I was just far enough away to miss it.
