Class A Questions
Hi,
I am new to the Forum and would like to say I am very impress with the free exchange of knowledge that everyone shares. I am looking to up grade to a Class A and I am currently looking at ether an 2015 Newmar Bay Star 3401, Gas or a Tiffin Breeze 32BR, diesel. We plan to travel 3 months of the year. My wife wants to try and stay under the 34 foot range because the ease of getting into State Parks and campground. We live in Alaska and plan to drive back and forth to the lower 48. Looking to purchase a used RV to start with. If someone would like to comment on ether of the two RVs I am looking at or anything else I would appreciate it.

I agree with your size choice. At a few inches short of 38 feet, I found a few times that I was too long for an otherwise great site.
Enjoy the adventure.

Glad to have you here in the forum with us.
Happy Trails!!!
Although the annual maintenance on a diesel is higher then gas, you will find most diesel owner do not want to go back to gas. Air brakes, air suspension are big factors there are many more reasons. I am partial to Newmar but as you pointed out the Tiffin is diesel. Both are fine coaches.
Good luck with your choice, and keep us posted on your decision.

RV Vagabon, Thanks for the tip regarding the Winnebago Forza 34T. Nice looking RV. I will add it to my list. I also like the looks of the Journey.

For the type driving you are intending, the Journey is the top pick for me. It's been built for years and there are lot of them out there. The have been built in short floorplans with the 32T as the shortest. Well built & good value.

The Bay Star is gas. The Breeze a diesel. BIG difference in price to start.
That said, it sounds like you will be putting more than average miles on your rig (Alaska to lower 48 every year?). Given that I would lean to the DP.
Either choice you will find those roads to/from Alaska are going to beat up either coach. The ride in the diesel will probably better on those rough roads. I would test drive on some rough roads whatever you are going to buy.

I have had 2 diesels and 5 gas motorhomes. I have now own my 4th Winnebago and keep going back to them for the value they provide. I went back to gas from a diesel because of the annual cost to maintain them. I can do the annual oil changes and lube myself on a gas. Much more difficult on a diesel. Just traded my 05 Journey for a 16 Sunova in Oct. I do not have many miles on it, but am leaving for Texas in Feb. So far it drives and rides very well stock. The 2016 models with gas now have a 6 speed transmission which most people have liked.
Good luck in your search. The above is just one man's opinion and you know what they say about opinions "Everyone has got one."

The maintenance cost debate stating gas is cheaper than diesel is a generality and is not true across the board. Do your research and pick what's right for you.

My diesel mechanic does not think much of the max force engines.
Newmar and Tiffin both make good coaches.
