I am also a fan of Progressive Insurance. The outside bins of my motorhome were broken into and the Sh*tbags tried to pry open the entry door. Stole the Onan 4,000 watt generator, 1500 watt inverter, and so on. Final cost for replacement/repair was $10,000. This does not include the $6,000 in personal property which I claimed on my Farmers' homeowners insurance. Both insurance companies did a great job (IMHO).

Things that affect your premium.
1 Your zip code
2 your driving record
3 your credit record
4 your claims record
5 how many policies you need ie bundle multi policy discount
6 your age
7 the age and mileage of the vehicle
8 the number of drivers on the policy and their #2,3,4 and 6
Etc
Etc
Etc
Everyone is different
Contact a broker like Miller Insurance previously mentioned. They are located in OR and represent multiple companies. I have an RV, Jeep toad, Harley, all registered in SO Dakota, three rentals in CA and an Umbrella Policy thru Allied a division of Nationwide thru Miller. They have shopped me for the last three years and can find some policies lower for one or two vehicles but higher premiums for the houses or Harley and I have just stayed with Allied. I like all my policies with the same company with the Umbrella overlapping them all.

We just switched from Geico to USAA/Progressive. Geico had the cheapest rate about $1300/yr but they couldn't do a full replacement cost on our rig. So we changed to USAA/Progressive that has a 5 year guaranteed replacement cost policy. Yes, it cost more but now if something really bad happens, we'll get a new one or our purchase price back.

Steve, might be the same one I have. After 5 years you get back what you paid for it.

I believe after five years the policy goes to an agreed value policy. Still better than the insurance company just arbitrarily assigning a value to your totaled rig and you not having any say in the matter.

Yes, if you tell them what the value is up to and including the sale price you will get that value back. If you have indicated the loan amount less any trade-in value or down payment you should get back what you declared.

I did and that was after 9 years of ownership.

Does anyone know if there are any differences in insurance costs if you keep you motorhome in a garage versus outside or on a lot?

You have to go through the search yourself.. and......

Right now, we are with Nationwide, Coach stored at the house when not traveling, not any external location.

All our bills go to our PO Box in town (house in same town, different Zip). Insurance higher if we use PO Box vs House address no matter if it's just a mailing address. Their system thinks you are storing the Coach external of property. Changing PO Box zip to same as house (mail would still come to PO Box), same rate.

Changed mailing address to house, all good, lower insurance.

A Insurance Company's systems can be a little wonky to.

EDIT: We switched our Autos to Nationwide when we bought/added the Coach. Before, cheaper to have house on Nationwide and Autos on Essurance.

We get quotes every year including asking for a quote for the house by itself (We have a guest house on property with a value higher than some Insurance companies normally insure for here in our area).

I have been getting quotes on my Newmar New Aire that will be finished soon.
In the many insurance carriers that I have been quoted (about 9 so far) none of them seem to have a difference in premium if it is kept in a garage.
They do rate different though if it is not kept at the same address as is on your reg....at least in NY.

USAA/Progressive. Near miss tornado took my roof off. Progressive was no hassle at all and paid to have the roof totally replaced at $13,000. Could not have had a better experience.

Pricing will vary a lot by your address. We have been very happy with Progressive on a MH and an ATV, including a sizable claim on the MH, over about 5 years. I recommend a good independant insurance agent, but with Progressive I also price a quote directly with Progressive online. If the quote there is cheaper (mine were) I then get the agent to match it.

USAA/Progressive 61% premium increase

Just got my Class A motor home insurance policy renewal notice from Progressive Ins. No coverage changes, and no claim history in the 5 years we've been with them, and now we're rewarded with 61% annual premium increase from 2017! Whoa!!

-- Anyone else with Progressive experience a similar fate?

-- Anyone else find good alternates for part-time RV Coverage?

Thanks, Russ

Ouch! 61%?!

I go through USAA directly for my auto and renter's insurance; did the Prog RV insurance through the partner channel...prepaying for the year (for 120/365 days' coverage) was $360 for full coverage w/ tow bennies. Between the two policies, it costs me approx. $120/mo or so.

Hope I'm not in for an unsavory surprise any time soon...
