Clean power from Onan?
Hey guys! I have a 1996 Bounder 34j with 11k miles and 400hrs on the Onan Marquis 5000 generator. I am curious how safe it is to run modern electronics on it. I have HDTV’s, Computers, satellites, cameras, etc..
Thanks!

No problem.Running electronics on a generator is better than running them on a modified sine wave inverter

All of that electronics equipment runs on DC. The internal power supplies convert the AC, no matter how dirty, to the DC level needed. The source is relatively unimportant. Some AC sources can be so bad that the power supply itself can't handle it, but most of them are designed to survive just fine.

Only the very cheapest, most poorly made generators won't provide power good enough for most any electronic device.

The onan produces good clean sine wave power with very little distortion . You will have no problem running anything requiring 120 volts AC with it.

I have a Cell Booster and the amp runs very nice on shore power. As soon I fire up the generator (7.5 Onan QD) the device starts freaking out - from the same outlet, no less.

I'd suspect the power-supply for the Cell Booster is defective.

Maybe the Generators magnetic field is interfering with it. Cell booster receives a signal and enhances it. The generator is essentially an electric motor run backwards so magnetic fields abound.

That makes sense. I have the amp in the front cabinet between the seats, right above the genny.
Hmmm - not sure what to do with it - maybe build a faraday cage around the amp?
The tv is sitting on the dash and it is un-fazed - maybe it was designed to be more hardened?

Sine waves haven't changed any since 1996 - you are good to go.
