Clothes washer
Should I consider putting a clothes washer in my 36 ft Itasca Suncruiser? I am a single, fulltimer. Is it worth the space I give up? Where would the space be? The cost? How long before it pays for itself? I am trying to hear all pros and cons. if you are happy with what you have, tell me why and what it is. If unhappy, why and what do you have?
Thankx

My buddy had one and he doesn't like it, it takes for ever to wash and dry and this is a small load. He likes the space not since he sold it. More room to store stuff.

I have taken two out of the last 2 m.h. I needed the space more and did not want to carry that extra weight around knowing that I would seldom use it. Besides I like washing 3-4 loads at the same time in the laundry mat which are every where.
A used one will cost about $550, a new one for $1000 but more importantly is the cost of installation. Unless the factory provided the water and power source conveniently to your chosen closet, it will be a challenge and a big expense to get it there. You need an exhaust vent too. Don't buy the washer/dryer until you have figured out how the hookup cost and expense. JMHO.

We ordered our DSDP pre plumbed and wired, then found a very lightly used unit that a fellow club member wanted to sell for $300. Had to remove the drivers seat and another club member and I installed it. Haven't gone full timing yet so haven't really used it.

We are a retired fulltime couple and we use ours all the time. We wouldn't be without it.

We wouldn't be without ours. The wash/dry times aren't unreasonable unless you fail to read the directions and overload the units. Yes, we wash frequent small loads, but who cares? We put dirty clothes in when we leave in the morning and they're clean and dry when we return. Why waste money or time sitting in a laundry room doing the wash?

Small loads but who cares. They work and it is nice to have everything done while your doing something else, relaxing, not watching your wash threw a porthole.

Like noted....small loads and take your time. Do not get a ventless unit. Get only an outside vented unit.

Our Beaver is wired & plumbed and should we ever decide to install.... We've decided to use the stackable units even with the additional loss of space.

We have had one in our last 2 coaches, we would not buy a coach without one. Its a matter of convenience. Get an outside vented one.

My wife uses ours all the time. We are not fulltimers, but often take trips that last a couple of months, but she will use it on short trips also. The convenience, lack of frustration waitng for a washer to come available, etc. make it worthwhile for us. As has been said, small loads make things work a lot better.

Wouldn't leave home without it. Throw your towels in at night and done in the morning. It'll even rock you to sleep. My Splendide 2100XC uses about 7 gal a load.

It's probably worth noting that the new unvented Splendide we installed last winter to replace our 12-yr old one is so good that its performance is very comparable to that of the vented models. We decided to stay with unvented because we didn't want anyone to cut a hole through the sidewall of our MH.
And for those who don't own one, no, the exhaust from an unvented dryer does not come into the RV, despite popular misconceptions to the contrary.

We compared the price to the price of washing at the park laundromat.. Turns out it was right about break even. So we opted for the storage space.
