Anybody tried using those collapsible hose they advertise on TV with a Flo-Jet.
My concern is will it overwhelm the Flo-Jet creating the pressure to expand the hose burning my pump up.

The Flo-Jet pump has a thermal circuit breaker that shuts the pump off when it gets too hot. Larger hose diameter is better. The standard 5/8" hose is marginal, at best. 3/4" or even 1" hose is a huge improvement, especially for uphill pumping. I can't think of any reason for the collapsible hose to behave differently than the standard hose, except that you may have to pay closer attention to keeping kinks out of it during use. If I could find a larger-diameter, 100ft, collapsible hose, I would buy one. Please post back if you do.

I tried to use a collapsible hose at my brothers house but the expansion and contraction played havoc with the well pump, made it cycle off and on way to much. Ended up just filling the tank and using the pump.

My post is about the FloJet macerator sewage pump. If you are talking about a freshwater pump, please disregard my comments.

Those flex hoses depend on back pressure to expand. If you look in the far end you will see the restrictor.

I have never actually watched the particle size that the macerator discharges, but I sure wouldn't want to plug the far end and have to remove the other, with a bunch of stuff shooting out.

Those expandable hoses, "as seen on TV", have received very mixed reviews. Performance and reliability appear erratic, particularly under high back pressure or high static pressure, both often resulting in catastrophic failure. Many have reported positive results, but I've avoided them. And I would certainly not connect one to a macerator output!

I have found them to be easy to kink, easily damaged, and a fairly low flow rate as well, so generally not very useful, even for fresh water. Your mileage may vary.

Smaller diameter hoses, and collapsible ones like this, just increase back pressure and make the pump work harder. My Flo Jet blows its fuse when that happens. Not exactly a thermal overload device, but it serves the same purpose.

I have 3, equeling 200 ft, of them slinky hoses.

We stay in State CGs and sometimes the water is pretty far away.
We also have the rubber thing to clamp on the threadless faucets.

I would never leave it hooked up but in a pinch it worked for filling the tank.

They just take up so little room that I ball them up and stuff them next to the water tank.

Why would you want to chance ruining a Flo-jet pump
and the possibility of having the hose blow, leaving sewage
all over,,,just to save a buck and buy the proper hose?????

Storage space and portability. Like a fire truck hose, flattens when not in use.

Like most of you have said, they will more than likely be more of a headache
than the space I am going to save.
It was an idea that didn't pan out.

I purchased one of the "As seen on TV" hoses.. it worked once, and burst the second time. Wasn't worth a warranty claim, just threw it in the trash. All I was doing was trying to wash the coach and not high pressure.

I did go purchase a more substantial collapsible one at Lowes.. It was about $40 and much sturdier .. claims to be 5/8" but doesn't appear to have the flow of a standard 5/8" hose. So far I do like it ... light weight and easy to stow. I also think it will be much easier to use during cold weather. I don't think I would leave it hooked to pressure for any time, although the box says you can.
