If you can buy it cheap enough I don't see this as a problem. My son purchased a used Class C off ebay and got a great deal. Since you can't see it consider it used and in bad shape and bid accordingly.

Hi maccorgi and woodpidgeon,
I'm in the minority here but try to separate the coach from the dealership. Consider the coach used (in your mind). And be ready to pay no more than 50% MSRP. Any higher than that, walk away.

The reason I say that is:
1. floor plan sells the coach
2. the warranty is only one year
3. this is a long term purchase (many, many years)

50% of MSRP is a fair price. A good price is 40% of MSRP. That is where you may consider starting. The manufacturer wants the dealer to sell these units. They may be helping the dealer, behind the scenes.

To maccorgi, the sales agreement must say everything will be clean and thoroughly dried out before you'll take delivery.

To woodpidgeon, like it or not, you'll need to go see the coach. One can not talk price until one is ready to buy. Have the cash ready to put down a deposit, if all other items are agreed to.

To both of you. Each coach needs to be checked out thoroughly. Do it yourself or hire someone to do it.

I checked EBAY to try and get more info.. did not find it.. NP

IMHO: With just a bit of RV knowledge, but pretty good about pricing/negotiating...Sounds HIGH for a 2006 VENTANA/NEWMAR -36Ftr. You have to take the msrp and treated like a USED RV. In my lil brain.. $105-110K Range..

On the other hand, if you know how to go to the web and do a rough numbers $ on it.. you may be getting a fair deal.

Hope this helps..

RV 2006 VENTANA Motor Homes prices, specs and options at NADAguides.com

BTW: I see Gary's recommendation to Woodpigenon, I agree on MSRP 40-50%.. You don't want to walk away thinking you left money on the table..

maccorgi,
I see it is a 2008 but what is the Make and Model? Couldn't you ask the dealer the circumstances behind the condition of the motorhome? After all you have a right to know its history.

As long as you are compensated for the grunge and the hassle then it is OK. From the numbers you indicated seems like they are giving you a very low price. You did not say what brand/ model it was.

If it was me I would leave that dealership and act like they never existed. If they are willing to show you something in that condition and call it new then they will not meet your expectations after the sale.

More Info

This is a 2008 Safari Simba FD. The salesrep said it was used at a show - well I don't know about you guys but don't you think that personal items would not be in a coach used at a show???

Well I did a 60% off and replied with that bid. Haven't heard back!

Here is a list of things ( everything not included ):
1)SANI-CON cleaned
2)Hole in wall behind bedroom door
3)Dashboard not placed properly - fix it will not stay put moves

4)Steps do not retract
5)Outside monitor for liquid levels not working properly
6)Grease/black spots on leather drivers chair and lounge chair

7)Shower door not on track ( filthy )
8)All floors need to be shampooed / cleaned
9)Mattress to be replaced
10)Hoses missing need to be new - black water/grey water no fresh water hose
11)Magnet on the screen door not contacting

18)Rust cleaned up under coach
19)Window has water stains
20)All the sealings around the slides are off and need to be fixed.
21)Air conditioner for cab not working
22)Drivers seat need to angle better needs the front of seat to go down
23)None of the water works were checked need to get that tested.
24)None of the plumbing was tested toilet flush, shower, sinks test for hot water to work properly
25)All tanks should be flushed with water and then again with air.
26)Basement bins need to be clean
27)The counters are dirty and need to be cleaned

29)All cabinets need to be cleaned as they are covered with dust/food/stains on the inside as well as on the outside.
30)Driver side shade not working
31)Exit door shade broken.

I left there will a 40 point list of what needed to be done. I also have a list of things I want to be added to the deal - like the hoses, new mattress, electrical connection 50 amp and 30 amp and converter, cleaning of all tanks, new filters for the water, refrigerator cleaned, shades replaced where broken, new lightbulbs, then I added extras like shade screen for patio awning, patio rug, step rugs, - I figured if they realized that they screwed up why not ask for the world and then see what I really get.

This was advertised as a new unit. It is in South Carolina Camping World.

Gary:

I totally agree with you - that is why I went personally to look at it and hired someone to go over it that has had coaches before - he said almost exactly what you said - offer a low price and go for it - as it fits my needs - if they want more walk away.

see my previous post

Thank you everyone - this is the kind of information that has helped me to make the decision.

Hope all of you good luck and happy trails.

GOOD GRIEF!

That rig needs more cleaning and "fixes" than the '88 Winnie we bought last summer!

If you like the rig, make a punch list of conditional items to be addressed and start at 50% off list and see where it goes from there.
Remember, once you own it, it will be a used rig for sure.

Thank you everyone for your post - the MSRP was 183K asking 112K - the bank said it was worth 93K at loan level. I bid 75K and expect my deposit back and a no from the dealership. I made note that it was a used unit advertised as new. I know they won't take that amount but that was 60% off of the MSRP and the loan value. The sales rep said it was below loan value.

Have a great week!

Regards,

Louise
