Convection ovens

Has anyone had any problems with their Convection Oven stopping working? We have purchased a 2005 Mountain Aire and have been warned that they sometimes quit after four or five years. We haven't picked it up yet so haven't tested it. Just wondering!!!

Hi. Are you referring to your convection microwave, or do you have an oven with a convection option? Knowing make and model when you can see and add it will help folks chime in. Our convection microwave was 20 years old and going stein when we sold the Rv. Good luck

I suggest 'before picking it up' you go through all systems to check they are functional. Put a cup of water in the microwave and turn it on microwave and convection settings. You could do this with generator running and test it at the same time. Air Conditioners, water heater, furnace, stove top and oven, water pump, all systems should be checked. If they claim there's no water or power available, demand they get some to test systems before signing final papers.

Microwave/convection ovens usually work in RVs, there are some models of some manufacturers that don't seem as robust in a bouncing RV as others, but this rig is 9 years old or more and it should have a working microwave.

Ours is almost 20 years old in the MH and still works.

The one in the house failed at 5 years.

The second one in the house was repaired by installing a new micro-switch that cost about $4.00 so it is now 12 years old.

Thanks for the comments. It's a GE Microwave/convection oven. Just priced them at Home Depot. 399.00 and 800.00, only had two models. Didn't seem to be much difference. Same power.

I've never had much durability out of GE appliances, from TVs to radios to dishwashers and stoves. We steer clear of them because of the long history of them wearing out, ironically usually the electric controls. I'll never buy another GE product, even though I fly in airplanes with GE engines.

The Sharp carousel convection/microwave in our coach went for 15 years. We just replaced it with the same one from Home Depot for $ 499

At our dealership, it was the microwave part that usually failed. The heat for the convection oven is just heater coils and much less problematic than the miicrowave oven.
