Cost of an oil and filter change, generator oil and filter change?
So far I have been priced from $399-500.00 for a simple oil and filter change on the Cummins 5.9 ISB engine and what I assume to be an oil filter and oil change on the propane generator.
What in God's name am I missing? Maybe $20 for an oil filter and 17-19 qts of oil 15W-40 grade. Haven't checked into the generator yet....maybe 5qts of oil and a $10 filter?
What makes it so expensive? I have a shop that will take the oil so they can burn it in their heating system. Five minutes to pull the filter, 3 minutes to put oil in the new filter and screw it back on. Maybe 10 minutes to drain the pan. Another 10 to put oil in the engine.

I do the oil filter changes myself on my Cummins and my generator, I only use the cummins filters, The large filter for the pusher engine is $65, small filter for the generator I believe it’s $25, The engine I believe takes 8-10 gallons of oil.
I know with my specific engine you have to go through the master bedroom put the bedroom slide out, open the carpeted hatch in the closet and fill the oil from inside, this is something that could potentially cause a huge mess if not done very carefully and cover everything. With some sort a compression funnel connected to the dipstick tube you may could do it but is not recommended and will probably make a huge mess.
My particular generator that comes out on a hydraulic slide requires approximately 30 bolts to be removed to get access to the filter and oil fill area, with much less oil required.
I think they really just don’t want your giant coach hogging their bays for such a quick job.
They unlike you will be charged for the disposal of your used oil and filters.

I have had my Class A Diesel 2 years now. After the first year I went to Massey Diesel in Phoenix. Cost of oil change, including filter and diesel generator service (oil and filter)was about $550. Second year had warranty work performed at La Mesa RV. They did the same service while it was in at a cost of $575.

I use 19 qts in the engine, and 3 qts in the generator. CAT filter + genny filter = $35.
6 gallons of Rotella 5w-40 synthetic x $25/gallon = $150. 12 pack of Corona = $15.
BOOM! $200 for annual oil change. Dun!

I have always changed oil and filter in whatever I owned. Unfortunately due to health issues it is getting harder and harder to do. Even so, I do it anyways just for the sense of accomplishment.

Cummins ISM 500
Oil Filter = $40
Coolant filter = $13
Fuel filter = $20
Air brake cartridge = $40
19 qt. Rotella = $80
Onan genset
Oil filter = $12
Fuel filter = $32
6 qt. Rotella = $24
And an air filter for the Onan is about $16 and for the Cummins is about $175.
These are all discount prices.

dang, I spent 120.00 oil change and filters on my 5.9 ISB and generator done myself

I usually pay around 300.00 for a mobile guy to come to me and change the main engine oil and filter. I do my own genny.
For the convenience of not having to drive somewhere and wait for a change, or stop at a Speedco and have to possibly wait behind a truck or two it is money easily parted with. I full time, so doing my own main engine is kind of a pain.
Now for your time frame: I have never had a oil change take only 28 minutes. Speedco without a wait is still about an hour. My mobile guy is a little less, maybe.

7 gallons of rotella t5. $100
Oil filter $37
Fuel filters x2 $40
Coolant filter $10
Air filter $160
Total: around $350
Labor: free minus a couple 12 packs of beer

Maybe they are including fuel filters also because they should be changed also.

Engine
Wix Air Filter = $25
Wix Oil Filter = $18
8 Qts Mobile 1 = $48
Generator
Onan Air Filter = $10
Onan Oil Filter = $12
2 Qts Mobile 1 = $12
Total = $126
Dispose of used oil = Free.
That's what it costs for an annual oil, filter, air filter change on a gasser. Takes about 30 minutes total.
I lube the chassis every 1000 miles or less and that cost about $1.
