crack on plastic cover shower skylight
Above my shower I have a skylight. when I was on the roof I noticed a crack on the skylight on the roof. It was at the exact half way point on the rim of the plastic base and then split perfectly up towards the center about 10 inches. It almost looks like it is a seam that is supposed to be there ? but have a hard tome believing that..thought maybe a pressure relief? Is that supposed to be there and are there 2 layers to that skylight, didn't see a crack from the inside. Would appreciate help, thanks

Most likely it is a crack and you can either try to patch it or replace it. If you don't it will allow water in and cause problems.

Drill a small hole at the end of the crack to prevent the crack from continuing. Fill the hole and the crack (clean well first) with Dicor non-sag sealant if you wouldn't mind the looks from the shower, as no-one would see it from the ground. I did that with our old 5er skylight (smaller crack though) and it never gave a further problem.
P.S. Most shower skylights are double pane.

You can go to a hobby shop or the model department at Hobby Lobby and buy a small tube of Testors #3512 Cement for Plastic Models. Be sure it is the one that dries clear. Apply a bead of cement along the entire length of the crack. It actually fuses (melts) the plastic and the repair will be pretty much invisible. I used this to repair cracks in my A/C shroud.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

My cover over the shower was really broken. Could not be fixed as the sun really did a job on it. Ordered a new outside cover from EZ Tops. Very happy with it & the price was good. Was pretty easy to install if your somewhat handy. There web site is EZ Tops World Wide manufacture acrylic and Lexan skylights and domes..

X2 on drilling holes at the ends of the crack(s). But, I'd recommend patching the crack(s) with Eternabond. Cut about 1/2" wide. Since the typical skylight is translucent, the patch is hardly noticeable from inside. Mine had several cracks when I bought the rig, enough so that when it rained outside, it was dripping inside. The Eternabond patch immediately stopped the leaks and the cracks haven't grown longer either.

Mine crumbled when I tried to cover it. I ended up replacing it. Eternabond is the good fix if it has not got sun rot like mine.

I did my double insulated 5 sided shower skylight with Replacement Skylights, Square, Rectangular & Round. as someone else has already suggested. They were great to deal with, takes usually about 3 wks., but a much better skylight than the original.
