Cracked Windshield!!
While driving our new Tiffin home we got our windshield cracked. The rock hit right at the bottom and the crack spread upwards about 4" and then turned and went about 3".
Are there any options of stopping the crack from getting longer? It is about in the center and right at the bottom.

In my miserable experience, no matter what you do, eventually a new windshield is coming your way.
Sometimes a "starburst" crack/damage can be repaired, but a 7" linear crack ??

I figured that also, but I did not want to file a claim one day after getting insurance. Hopefully it will last a while and then I will get it repaired. We have always had bad luck with windshields. My wife had to get one replace and it got cracked again about a month later.
I may get in touch with Safelite to see what they can do (repair wise) and pay for it myself.

What a terrible way to start out with a new MH. I would go ahead and report it to your Insurance company. That is after all why we have insurance. Beside, whether it is a day after or a month after getting the insurance, it simply wont make a difference to the company. It only makes a difference to you as you sit behind the wheel of you new MH and look at the crack.
Did you get specific windshield coverage?

I had a cracked windshield last autumn - and the first question asked by my insurance (Progressive) was whether the crack was "larger than a playing card". From a number of fronts I have it that a crack larger than that can not be effectively sealed using the "starburst" sealant/impregnation approach. Also, mine progressed to a point, then stopped (which I also understand is typical, unless you have the heat blasting on the glass). Go ahead and call the insurance - they should simply say that (time wise) if it is covered, then it IS covered......

A windshield crack has a mind of its own, it might not ever get worse or it could spread all the way across in a day. I drove company trucks in Freeway Construction for years and had plenty of cracked windshields.

I've had as low as $300 and seen them much higher. Usually a few hundred less than the deductible ($1000).

I just had my one piece windshield replaced. It started as a small star. I had that fixed, but a month later it spread. I agree with previous poster, it has a mind of its own. My windshield, about $2700, so I did file a claim. The only good thing was that while the windshield was being replaced, I installed a new residential refrigerator.

Some places have a system where they drill to stop the crack and fill with resin .
Not pretty but better than 3000.00 for a new windshield .
I can't even get insurance for the windshield

Ain't that a kicker?? If you know of or can find a GOOD glass man in your area, but if you can he might be able to stop drill it and stop the crack from spreading further. I feel your pain. We took delivery in mid January and got a good size star in our Bus on the way home. Ours was seal-able and so far it's looking good. Good luck with yours.

Glass claims are considered "no-fault" claims and should not increase your rates. By law, some states have to automatically cover glass. FL is one of them. Don't know if they charge you for the coverage or it is included in the policy cost.
I filed a glass claim about a month after switching to Allstate. Agent gasp when I said I had to file a claim, but sighed with relief when I said it was glass. ???
