Cummins Diesel Generator

Hi

How often does the oil need to be changed in a Cummings diesel Generator? Everything I have seen states 150hrs that seems a little low to me. I thought it should be around 750hrs or so. One good weekend at a football game it needs to be changed again.

Thanks for the imput.

First off, it's CUMMINS, not CumminG A football weekend, from Friday 6 pm to Sunday 6m is only 48 hours. You would get three weekends before reaching oil change interval of 150 hours, which is what Cummins recommends. You could go longer, but you'd void any warranty and shorten the life of the generator engine. 150 hours is a pretty long interval, most lawnmower manufacturers recommend at least once a year and I only run my mower about 20 hours a year.

Think about it... If you were driving a generator powered car (go with me on this) for 150 hours at 60 mph, you would travel 9000 miles! That's a very long interval for an oil change! Change it every 150 hours and it'll take care of you when you need it.

Must be an engineer. Good comparison.

I believe the manual says change @ 150hrs or yearly. I go about every 2 years.

Our manual says the first change should be at 50 hours, 150 hour intervals thereafter.
