Angry CW $39.00 will install anything special

Have you heard of Camping Worlds $39.00 will install anything special?

Well that is until you get a phone quote, drive 150 miles 1 way, have a service order written that you sign assuring them you agree to the price, your motor home pulled into the bay and then and only then do they inform you that their $39.00 special is really $200.00.

I would recommend anybody doing business with Camping World to think twice about it. After talking to the GM all he would say is that the disclosure is in the fine print and that the work was not preformed before informing me. He is absolutely correct, the problem is that not only did the service person that quoted me the cost on the phone or the person that wrote the work order tell me about the magic price change.

A days wages lost, $100.00 worth of diesel what a great day you have made it Camping World.

If it is this one $39 Install - Camping World it does say as little as $39 and you have to be a Good Sam member.

That said, I am no fan of CW and the ad is misleading.

We have had CW install two items on our coach and both times we were only charged the quoted $39 for the installs. From the various CW threads that come up each week it seems that some CWs have poor sevice and some do not. We are lucky and live near one that is good. Quoted prices have always stayed at quote, no long delays to get appointments, no delays in getting our coach back and the work that was done was done well and in a timely manner.

I saw that ad as well; while shopping at CW another customer found out about the small print. Disappointed, they had little choice but to pay the higher rate.

Just be sure to understand the cost of installation of the item before committing.

It is not install everything for $39. That price is for some items but not all if you are a Good Sam member. Good Sam members get a Master catalog that has the install prices under the item price on most items.

Even the $39 install is not a bargain on all items, but it is on many.

If OP was quoted $39 for install when he ordered and made appointment for install. Then he should have gotten that price. Make sure you have the name of the person you talked to and gave a quote, when ordering and setting appointment.

Installation Fees
Installation Fees shown cover labor charges for standard installation. Some installations require additional material and labor charges and are quoted upon inspection. A standard supply charge is added to each work order.

Another reason to find a reliable RV service that is not a CW store.

A $ 39 install fee for everything is unrealistic. You may have wanted it to be the case but it's unlikely to be so. We had a new Splendide washer dryer installed at Camping World. The purchase price was good and I believe they charged us around and hour and a half for labor for removing the old one and installing the new. The unit was in a cabinet in the bath area and required taking the trim off the door as well as removing the passenger seat and hauling it out. They did a good clean job and it was well worth the money.

I agree
(I had a similar disappointing experience at Camping World).

My advice to anyone thinking about having CW do anything is this:
1.) BEWARE, (and be aware of), the fine print.
Although CW will install some things that they sell for the $39 advertised price, there are often "additional charges"!
2.) Be aware that CW installations are NOT OFTEN done correctly!
In my experience having CW do any work is like playing Russian Roulette with your RV, (and your wallet)!

Only 2 days ago I had a "Free Brake Inspection" done on my '07 Saturn ION toad, at Schofield Auto Clinic, (in WI).
Believe it or not, they told me "they should be good for at least another 25k miles".
BTW, that's the 1st, and only, time that has happened in 45+ years.

I had a verbal quote before I drove 150 miles to have a washer/dryer installed, when I arrived I signed a work order where I agreed to pay for the w/d and the $39.00 install.

They didn't spring the $200.00 installation till after they had my MH in the shop. I told them to get my MH out of their shop and not do the install, I don't do bait & switch very well. I would have gladly paid $200.00 to have the w/d installed if they would have been upfront with me and quoted me $200.00.
