Went to the big CA RV Show yesterday...really liked the Damon motorhomes, especially the 2006 Intruder. Would like any opinions on this coach, or the Damon line in general, and particularly interested in Ford vs. Workhorse chassis.
Have had a Bounder, then a Carriage 5th Wheel with the Ford 350 powerstroke diesel. Back to a motorhome...but which one? Also like the Four Winds Magellan or Windsport.
Opinions, anyone??

I would not buy any 37', 38' or 39' gas coach unless it came on the Workhorse W24, 24,000 pound chassis. The only Intruder that comes on the W24 chassis is their largest, Model 391.

You'll probably get lots of different opinions on this. I've had several motorhomes with GM engines. Currently have a '99 Georgetown with the Ford v-10 chassis, albeit the 275 hp version. In 60,000 miles on the Ford have had to replace one oxygen sensor, which is a lot better than I can say for any of the GM engines (5) I've had. At least for me, the Ford has been a much more trouble free engine. (Hope talking nice about doesn't cause it to blow up next week) I've driven the '06 3 valve 345 hp Ford with the 5 speed tranny and am impressed. More power and quieter than my current v-10. Just one person's experience. I'd go for the Ford.

The new 2006 Ford chassis should be an interesting chassis. Not sure I would want to be among the first to try it out. Maybe 2007. The Ford chassis has been a good chassis along with the V-10. My only caution to you would be sure if you purchase a 2006 to make sure the chassis is also a 2006 and not a left over 2005.

The new Ford chassis is fine for a 35' 2 slide coach but the Workhorse W24 24,000# chassis is still the chassis of choice for the larger gas coaches.

I have a 05 Damon Challenger 371 with the Workhorse chassis. This is my first RV, but I am very pleased. I have had less things to fix with this coach than I did with a new 5th wheel.

The fans roar and on mine, the shocks had to be replaced to make it ride better. The new ones have the right shocks from the factory. The fans still roar.

All in all, I have been very pleased. Only get between 7 and 8 MPG, but I figured this.

Just my 2 cents that there are some Damons that are great. Hope it stays this way. Bought it in May.

I've a 05 Damon Daybreak, on a workhorse. I like the "engine" ok and the low doghouse. I don't think I would buy another workhorse. I've had so many chassis electrical problem, small and seems to be fixed now but a big nuisance. Beepers beeping at me constantly and was'nt easy to get fixed. 2 trips to 2 different svc centers. The elactric throttle, and other electric gizmos just seem like unnecessary problem waiting for a place to happen.
The Ford has way more ground clearance. The one I looked at had the generator control in the center of the coach, unlike mine, in the front. The Ford has a parking brake "and" a "Park", in the transmission. I hate to say this cause it hurts my resale value but if the workhorse has "autopark", don't even look at it again.
I drove a 06 35' Hurricane with the new 360 (or so) HP and it was empty but it felt pretty spiffy to me. I was going to trade mine for it but I got overruled by the wife even tho she really liked it. We would have take a 20K hit on the trade.
The Damon really has'nt given us any problems to speak of. We have one slider window that does'nt lock but the dealer has had it in stock for 4 months waiting for me. I told them , I wanted to wait til I had a big list of problems before I took it in. I have'nt been able to add any thing else on the warranty list after 6 months. I had some little problems but figured out how to fix it myself , much easier than taking it in and leaving it for a week.
