Defrost is the default mode for your A/C modes, sounds like the vacuum control section of your A/C is not functioning.
First thing to check is the 12v vacuum pump, these are usually on the firewall near the heater hoses, and A/C Freon lines. Check to make sure it powers up with the ignition on.
Also look for a company name , for the A/C unit supplier " Evans " is common, cast into the plastic housing.
Knowing the brand will help if you need more repair info.
The vacuum pumps are available at AutoZone $85. if that's the problem.
If your A/C unit happens to be Acme. Then in the " Files " drop box ( Blue bar to the right of "User CP ") look in Air conditioning, there is a downloadable PDF file that may help.

Sounds similar to problem I experienced with my unit. The first thing the tech did was to check that all vacuum lines were connected located, as Skip said, on the fire wall. These need to be secure in place in order for the vacuum controller to work. Mine were intact. The controller itself was defective. The small plastic vacuum controller was a Ford part and cost $34 from a local Ford dealership. To access it required taking face of dash off to get behind the heat/AC levers. Nearly $200 in labor. I watched and took notes in case I need to replace next one!

Question dash

Thanks to the replys! My unit is an American Eagle/Fleetwood with part supplied through Denso. All electrical with no vacumn lines to it that I can find..defrost did work. Trying to look for simplist solution but a real kicker.

Blower does not come on ac part/defrost does

Hope someone had this problem and got a fix for it.

Just back from the Denso , web site , I apologise , thought their system used vacuum actuators too, but found out they are using, electronic servos.
Web site did have a rather extensive test manual for motor homes though.
Click downloads, when you check out the link " 007 " has posted.
