Among a number of things I have been working to fix since I bought this coach is the dash AC. I finally tracked the problem down to a corroded spade connector on the binary (pressure) switch, which I repaired. I also noted that the static charge is very low and I do not want to invest in a professional drawdown and recharge if there is a leak in the system. I would rather find the leak, fix it, then have the system evacuated and properly recharged.

The system holds 4# of R-134a fully charged. I want to add enough R-134a with dye (and sealer ?) to sufficiently pressurize the system and expose any leaks. Suggestions or experiences would be appreciated.

You can buy a recharge kit and any auto parts store, some have dye in it.

Thanks Wizard. Actually I have a recharge kit. That is how I knew the static charge was low.

I guess what I was looking for is any tips on how many cans of R-134a with dye to use, or concerns about air in the system affecting the dryer, or other issues to be aware of, if any. It's been 40 years since I worked with auto AC systems, but other than changes to the refrigerant, maybe things are pretty much the same.

Automotive systems haven't changed much in the past 40 years other than the refrigerant. Its pretty hard to get the charge right without weighing it in but if you have both, high and low side guages and you are good at knowing the proper pressures you can get close. Too much and you could blow a hose or damage the compressor. The cans are sold as weight ozs. not fluid ozs.
