Dash Air Conditioner

Hi all, lease help. Our dash air conditioner does not blow cold air. I had a technician looking into it. He tried to dd freon but the system would not take it. I asked hime to not bother with it.
Can you think of any other issue?
Thanks.

Did he test the low pressure switch before trying to add freon ?
Check all the fuses ?
Did he hook up a set of gauges to check pressures or just hook up and try to add from a bottle.
I can think of at least five possible issues , for no-op of dash air , all of which should have been tested ( in an hour or less ) before trying to add freon.

I agree with Skip, with the coolant used today, R134, it is critical to get pressures correct. Too much coolant will cause cooling issues as bad as too little coolant. By the way, Freon is a trademarked name by Dupont for a specific product which isn't used in modern A/C systems. I hope he was adding the proper coolant.

You could also have an issue with the heater valve. If the heater valve doesn't close all the way, the heater core will compete with the A/C evaporator and you might not get much cooling. If you feel the heater hoses going in and out of the heater core are both warm, the valve isn't closing properly. If the air isn't blowing out of the dash vents and only coming out the defroster vents, then you have a vacuum leak preventing proper operation of the vent doors.

Skip is right. Find another technician.

I hate to nitpick, but R134 is a refrigerant. Antifreeze is a coolant. Terminology is important when trying to understand mechanical issue.

You are absolutely correct, I was working under the noise and distraction of hardwood floors being sanded in the next room. I was also wrong about the common refrigerant used today, it's R134a, not R134. Freon is the trademarked name used for R-12, R-13B1, R-22, R-502, and R-503.

Update...we had to call the mobile service while in Key West (Rubios). They had to check all the lines, and change couple of things (sorry for my ignorance as I dont know what they changed). It is fixed now. Cost was about $1,500. We do have a maintenance insurance with Good Sam so our cost was only deductible and freight for parts and part of service call (about &300).

Thanks for posting that your fixed up .
I'd expect that the invoice, that Good Sam was sent for payment, had the part's descriptions , and you only got a bill for your portion.

Nice that you didn't have to pay the whole bill , but knowing what the parts were , would also be good in case you have more trouble down the road.

EDIT: Nxkharra, are you typing your RV's info in to every post ?
You can set up a " Signature line " by clicking " Quick Links " under your Welcome message in the dark blue bar, Then " Edit Signature" type in your RV info , and click " Save Signature " at the bottom of the page , and the info will apper automatically under your posts. I ask because your RV info isn't below a line at the bottom of your posts , and transfers with the Quote function , where usually , Signature Lines do not.

No I am not typing the info every time. I set up an automatic signature in my setting per recommendation of one of the members.
Am I doing it wrong?

It's not wrong, just different. If you go to "User CP", you'll find a list of actions on the left side of the screen. One of the choices is "Edit Signature"

Enter the information there and it will display below a short line and not copy each time someone quotes you.
