Dash Air Conditioning

Any idea where I can buy parts for the Dash Air in a Safari Zanzibar - 1999? Manual, useless as it is, says Acme Air but they're out of business.

What kind of parts? Isn't Safari made by Monaco? What chassis do you have? If you need a A/C compressor, you can find part number on compressor, hoses can be made by a hose company if you can't find them.

Dash Air

Safari was built by Safari and then bought out my Monaco, I think after they went broke. The parts are the vacuum pump and vacuum switch. All the hoses are fine. The chassis is a Magnum.

take pics of the parts you need, i might have the switch in stock, as far as the vacuum pump the newer units use the same type that ford uses on thier deisel pick ups w/ minor mods they work great on the older safari's, you can get the vacuum pump straight through monaco 1866-466-6226

It's a Magnum Chassis and the problem is the dash air just doesn't work. According to Norm the vacuum pump, vacuum switch and fan motor are all shot.

do the dash a/c controls have a digital display? Does the dash fan blow at all? Do you have any air flow coming from the defroster vents on the dash?

No, it's a '99, prior to digital. Yes, there's a bit of a flow but it's not cold and it usually blows through the defrost vents. The fan makes noise when it does run, like the blades are hitting the cage surrounding it.

Can you get the mfg. and serial # off each part and take it to an A/C specialist where they might be able to cross reference the number to and equivalent?

The system is from Acme Air who is out of business - I'm trying to get parts numbers from Monaco cuz apparently some guy bought all of Acme's stuff when they went out of business and sells it out of his garage. If I could get the part numbers then I think I could order the parts.....in a perfect world.

The blower motor can be matched up at most auto parts stores, they used a gm style blower motor in alot of them, Monaco is sending me all the info on the old acme systems. Email me @ rv.repair@gmail.com and I will forward you all the info they send me. On the air flow coming from the defrosters the first thing you should check is to make sure you have vacuum, Safari used a air type vacuum generator if this is the case and is not working then replace it with a new style that wires into 12 volt then verify the ops of the vacuum control and see if the air will switch positions if not check the vacuum switch and all lines make sure you have good vacuum to the switch and it isnt leaking, if all are good one of the vacuum motors could be stuck or a line might be defective, not sure what switch you are talking about needing to replace, what pressure do you have in the a/c system and is the compressor coming on at all?

I guess as a last resort you could bring in the part to see if they could match it up. Have you called a specialist to see what they would recommend?

I was thinking of a local A/C specialist. Someone in your area who can give you some inside industry advice.
