Dash air low performance

I have a 2005 Monaco Dip PAQ and the dash air just does not get cool enough. I have been told don't expect much on dash air, in my pass motorhomes I have found more not working then working. Just wondering am I expecting more then normal? The coach is new to me so I am still learning things about it. Where is the service port?
Thanks

If you are getting cold air (40-50*) that's about all you can expect. It may or may not keep the driver/passenger area cool on its own. Just got back from a trip to the Tennessee mountains. We had to run the generator and front roof unit in addition to the dash air to be completely comfortable. I read where someone installed a curtain just behind the front seats. With the curtain closed, the dash air kept the cockpit cool.

Yep, you should be seeing duct temperatures under 50 degrees. If it isn't chances are you are low on refergerant. Those aftermarket kits do work, just make sure you use the same refrigerant! If it's R134a, use R134a, not something that is suitable!

Lots of things to consider--the curtain is a good idea in really warm weather, could be low "freon", could be dirty eval or condensor air flow, could be leaking h-valve letting hot coolant from engine into air box/exhange. Besure to use max cool setting on dash controls so internal air is recircul-ed and cooled vs cooling incoming ouside air.....

No matter how you look at it, most DP dash air conditioners won't keep up very well if the temps get up there at all. Without going into a long explanation on how A/C units work (unless you wish to know, in which case I can expand in another post), no matter what kind you're talking about; refrigerator, freezer, house air, or automobile/motorhome air conditioning..they all work by removing heat. There is no such thing as making air colder. It's only because of the super low boiling point of the refrigerant gas that you feel "cold". When you think about it, why is it colder to us at night? Because the sun isn't heating the air around us. Our DP windshields are a very effective heat sink due to their vast size. A curtain behind the driver's compartment might help a bit, but then any 4 legged children you might have are going to roast.
So..what to do? If you don't have a gauge set, pay someone to check the gas levels. If it's completely flat, you have more issues. The charge ports are most likely near the evaporator in the front, where the fan motor is. Not always, but usually. It's easier to put the low side fitting on the accumulator and the high side just before the expansion valve/orifice tube where they are close to each other than it is to make hoses with the fittings in the middle. Plus it's easier for the technician to see what he's doing if he's not standing on his head under the rear bed. LOL. Otherwise, look around the compressor. After that, if it's not cool enough for you, you'll either have to run auxiliary fans, run the house air on the generator, or both.

i/we make it a habit before each trip to put gauges on the a/c and see if it needs some topping off, most times it needs a bit
i figure two lines with a combined length of nearly 100 feet and lots of connections..getting all the leaks is just not going to happen
that being said i run ours on MAX and 3 fan setting and get 42-46F out of the vents

once the sun is high i turn on the roof units to aid in sucking up the heat
that big ol windshield is a bear at playing solar hot spot

i try to aim the vents toward body parts that need a blast of cool air,

I have a 2002 Windsor, the AC does work but went the temp outside gets high ~+80 the front AC does not keep up. We will run the front AC and then at some point during the drive we will start the generator and turn on the front AC unit. This will keep us and the dogs comfortable. When we get close to final destination we turn on the rear AC to cool the back.

Back ~5 years ago I did have to had 1 can of Freon to get the AC to work so if it is low enough for the pressure sensor not to engage that could be a problem.
