Dash cam location

I just purchased a dash cam for my motorhome. I haven't been able to set it up as it is still winter here.

I was just wondering where most of you that have dash cams locate them. These class A's have no shortage of windshield real estate. Is it better up higher on the windshield or down by the dash.

Location will depend on the camera's field of vision, and probably you'll change it around once you view the images.

Mine is low , right of center ( two piece windshield ) in the bottom corner of the right wiper's swiped area.

I also have mine low just left of center. The lens is just under the windshield wiper and has a clear field of view.

Had it high, moved it down on the dash pretty much right away.

I was thinking lower would be better as we already sit pretty high.

Mine came with a suction mount and a stick on mount. I guess I will experiment with the suction and then stick on the permanent mount once I am happy.

Mine is just left of center (two piece windshield). I want to be able to see that it is operating, but I don't want it cluttering my field of vision. For the same reason, I don't want the power cord hanging down and annoying me. In terms of functionality, I don't think it matters. High or low, the camera will pretty much show the same thing if someone pulls in front of you.

+1 on the dash in the center.
I was able to use a piece of stiff wire and string, to thread the string from the center to the side of the dash. I curved the wire, and went from slot to slot of the defroster vents.
Then used the string to pull the cable from the middle to the last slot by the B pillar.
This keeps the cable out of sight.

Regards,

Dan

I keep mine just above the roll up shades in the center of the windshield.

Wherever you locate it, your best mount will probably employ the suction cup on the windshield rather than on the top of the dash panel. The windshield is likely steadier than the dash mount.

Yes, I was definitely going to be attaching it to the glass.

On my dash, the cluster rises up about six inches. I drilled a hole in the plastic, on the left side of the cluster and ran the cabling through the hole and under the dash to power the camera. I placed mine in the low left corner of the windshield, behind the cluster so it's not blocking my view. I don't like cables showing and by putting it in the left corner and running the cabling through the hole, there is very little cable in view.

I ordered a second power cable for mine and installed it in my truck. I was able to mount the camera behind the mirror on the truck and hide the cable in the head liner. This way, I can use the camera in both vehicles without having to move the cable back and forth. Once home, it goes into the truck, daily driver.

Mine is mounted on the left side of a one piece windshield. My instructions said to mount it where the windshield wipers could clear the camera's view. Mine is below the wipers and rain can limit visibility.

I find it handy to leave my dashcam connected when my rig goes in for service. I can view activity such as a 60 mile test drive after the fact.

Safe travels. JD
