Dealer E-Mail Blast
So a technique I have used to purchase both of my cars is the Dealer E-Mail Blast. I don't have to go from dealer to dealer AND they negotiate against each other, not against me. I'm aware cars and RV dealers aren't the same, this is why I'm asking for some help. Here is the proposed e-mail I plan to send to several dealers within driving distance of my house...
Dear [Salesman Name},
I'm interested in purchasing a new RV within the next 45 days. Could you please provide a price quote for a 2015 and 2016 Thor Outlaw 37RB? Please specify all applicable fees and add-ons including destination and documentation fees, etc.
I'm interested in this model with Super Nova Full Body Paint, Sydney Maple cabinets, Metallic Interior Décor. Are these colors available? If not, what color combinations do you have available?
I would also like the following Optional Features
· Black "Frameless" Radius Corner Dual Pane Windows
· Bug Screen Curtain in Garage
· Jack Knife couches in Garage
Again, I'm interested in acting quickly, so please provide as much information as possible on your available Thor Outlaw RBs, including the VIN#(s), so that I may make an informed decision.
I am sending this e-mail to other deals in the area to get the best deal. To avoid going around in circles and endless negotiations, please submit your best price the first time.
You can contact me by phone at (XXX) XXX-XXXX or BeerLover80@e-mail.com. I look forward from hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
[BeerLover80]
Your thoughts or improvements on this e-mail??

I say send it. There are a lot of RV dealers these days that are perfectly ok working via email and phone.... and some that still want you to stop by.
I bought my latest unit 7 hours away via email, then stopped in for the very final negotiation.

Thanks for the reply. But would you change any of the language in this e-mail?

I would probably change your email & your signature. "Beerlover80" isn't very professional, especially if you're wanting them to be serious about your request. Take this from someone who's been penning professional correspondence for over 35 years.

Is there a downloadable options list from Thor for the unit you want. If so, down load it and highlight the exact options you want and attach it with the email. I think it would be tough for a salesman to give an accurate quote without knowing exactly what all you want. I am sure there are more options than the ones mentioned.

I saw a few grammar issues and suggest you correct them but as a whole I like the approach as being novel. The worst case is that they don't bite.
You might not worry about putting a sales person's name but just send it to the dealership sales manager. The sale person can't send you an offer without the approval of their boss anyway.
You might also want to address whether you want a unit on the lot or willing to have them order one to meet your specifications. Of course, your time frame for obtaining a unit is going to control that.
You could even consider sending the same email to all your targets including them in the TO address and let them see who all might be bidding for your business. That could be interesting. LOL

X2...
Consider setting up a throw away email address through Gmail specifically for this. If it gets a lot of junk after you achieve your goal you can just stop using it.

I wouldn't give you what you're looking for if I was a dealer. Most buyers will take that quote and work their local dealer to match / beat it. I'd be looking for serious prospects that would give me a fair shot at doing business at levels that will allow me to stay in business and provide proper customer service.

I disagree. I don't see what it can hurt

I didn't say it could hurt. I said I wouldn't play if I was the dealer.

Isn't Capitalism great! I am a serious prospect looking to spend serious amounts of money. I'm upfront, clear, and concise with what I want.

Theoretically that approach "might" work but practically I wouldn't give it a chance, but it costs nothing to try.
I don't think there is any substitute for sticking your neck in the lions mouth and deal with each one eyeball to eyeball. If you slap your check book down on the salesman/mgr desk and emphatically announce your ready to buy you've got them in the best possible negotiating position. Then do not take their first offer, except the written one, and march over to the next dealer and offer it as a starting point. In all likely hood you'll probably hear from the 1st guy in a day or two with an even better offer.
Some trouble I realize but it's your money you're protecting, up to you if it's worth the aggravation.

I hope it works for you. My buying experience is limited to two MH's. I was able to negotiate far better prices in person than I was over the phone.

I think your approach is a sad sign of the times. People have lost their ability to communicate with others, in person. If I got your email, I would delete and move on, knowing exactly what you're doing. You say you're within driving distance, how about doing it the old fashion way, drive to the dealer, see what they have in stock, compare the options and ACTUALLY look at the colors you might like.
