This is info for bobbelcher and others with 16" tires. You can go to a 19.5" tire and wheel. They are just about equal in diameter and carry a lot more weight. This is the size used on a lot of 4500 & 5500 trucks. A friend of mine did this to his truck and loves them. You will have to look to find wheels but they are there. These are a more commercial tire and last a lot longer.

So I'd have to buy 6 rims and 6 tires but will they bolt up to my axles? I'm assuming the speedo will be off a little as I doubt they are exactly the same size. But that gives me something to look into when these Hercules tires need replaced since I literally just bought them a few weeks ago.

We are in the same boat and into our first motorhome for just under a year. We got ours from a dealer cause the ones on craigs list never returned calls. Our 29' 20 year old unit is very well built and in great shape with 66K miles. We wanted a small class a.

Paid $16K with new tires and all systems working June 2016.
replaces shocks for $200 DIY 2016
replaced all hoses, belt, pulley (that broke) and parking brake $2800 truck shop
repaired fridge - spark sensor $20 DIY 2017
repaired water heater - t-stat and ECO $25 DIY 2017
replaced gate valves on grey and black takes $30 DIY 2017

No slides or jacks to break. Single A/C, 30A service, 4KW genset, 100Gal fresh, 50 each grey/black +/-. Fits 2 adults, 3 chihuahuas and budget just fine. We expect to spend a thousand dollars, +/-, per year for maintenance and replace older systems - like the awning is original and we still have the analog tube TV's that cannot received over the air signal.

That should give you an idea of the first year owning a 20 year old motorhome.

I think is an interesting criteria and subject i personally have thought about as well.

So i did some comparison on rvs on the consignment lots:

I think a diesel under 80K miles in good shape:
2002 Horizon 36LD for Sale - D805 - PPL Motor Homes
running for under 28k.

Compared to a much order motorhome under 50k miles:
1992 Regent 1302 for Sale - D117NB - PPL Motor Homes
running for under 10k.

Versus a gas model
Under 60k miles:
1999 Itasca Sunflyer for Sale - A203NB - PPL Motor Homes
Priced under 17k.

Under 36k miles
2004 Southwind By Fleetwood 37C for Sale - A724CL - PPL Motor Homes
under 19k.

Seems like the budget presented is well achievable in the gas models and could be met in the diesel depending on the model.

Just thought that is interesting what if.

Yes you would have to buy 6 tires & rims. Load range on 16" tire is "D" or "E" range- some where between 2500 & 3300 LBS per tire. People run these on trucks all the time but most of the time the truck is empty. 19.5" tires are rated up to "G" & "H" load ranges, not sure of weight capacity. Tires are more expensive but last a lot longer. Do some searching on some "Hot shot" trucking discussion sites and you can get some more definite information. Hope this helps you.

Thing about older rvs you can really customize it to your liking without worrying about damaging things I brought a 1990 overland 40 foot which I have been restoring many of the guys here have been following my progress on my you tube channel rice rv my rig ran great so I didn't mind taking the challenge on the cosmetic as I can do most of my own work Click image for larger version

For those who may have been following this thread, we found what we were looking for this morning. It's a 1999 National Sea View 32 in pristine condition. Brand new tires, new batteries, 29K miles, Ford V10, kept under cover and it shows. We found it right here in Phoenix about 10 miles from home. Paid $22K. Private owner, no sales tax. This was a Craigslist find. https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/rvs/6109045890.htmlWe are thrilled.

Check out www.barthmobile.com for a high end older rv. Diesel pushers and gassers, all aluminum and many in your price range. Compare and inspect to avoid the money pit.
