Deep Cycle House Batteries
Hi All,
I have an Allegro Bus all electric coach and I need to replace the 6 house batteries. What recommendations do you have for replacement brands and types? I want to consider both performance and cost.
Thanks!

Our Phaeton has 6 house batteries. Probably very similar. They’re 6V golf cart type batteries. They’re wired 2 in-series each, to make 3-12V banks. These three 12V banks are then wired in-parallel to give you the best amp-hour longevity.
I have not replaced ours but many say (you can search the forums) you can get good, reasonably priced, golf cart batteries at Costco or Sams. I would look at the amp-hour rating on your current batteries and get that rating at a minimum.
Others may chime in with name specific types or other good places to find some.
Safe travels!

Golf cart 6V, 230 amp/hr batteries will work great. You can improve your installation by adding a battery watering system which makes monthly maintenance about 5 minutes. Profill is one brand available.
If you want to go completely maintenance-free you need to start looking at AGM batteries. Duracell AGM batteries are pretty good (and available at Sam's and possibly Costco) and not too expensive but the best ones are LifeLine AGM batteries.

2 1/2 years ago I replaced the six wet cell 220 amp house batteries in our Allegro Bus with 300 amp Lifelines. I now have 900 amps a reserve power and no maintenance. They are taller but have the same footprint. I paid $1596 total for all six delivered to my home. It's one of the best improvements I've made to the coach. I slide them out every six months and blow the dust off. They supply power longer and charge up faster. It would be hard to go back to wet cells.

Take a look at www.vmaxtank.com. Their batteries are higher in capacity and have great reviews.

I'd recommend looking at LiFePO4 lithium ion batteries. They're more expensive up front, but the charge, discharge, capacity, and maintenance needs (or lack thereof!) of lithium is much more practical in the real world than either lead acid or AGM.
On top of better performance, you can discharge them down to about 10 percent and don't need to worry about recharging to 100% or equalizing, so the usable capacity it much higher for the same amount of Amp-hour storage on paper. You could replace 600Ah of lead acid or AGM battery capacity with 300 or 400Ah of LiFePO4 and actually have more *usable* energy available to you.
Based on our calculations and use profile, the LiFePO4 batteries will also cost less per Ah in the long run than either flooded lead acid or AGM batteries.
Right now, I'd recommend Battle Born Batteries and 3 x 100Ah 12V LiFePO4 batteries would be right around $3K.

I'm a big fan of Sams (or Costco)
For a pair of 6V GC2 = 12V and 200+AH for less than $200 Comes out to <$1 \AH
Sure there are better and a little higher AH battys but do the math and cslculate $/AH and even factor in # cycles for a true economical analysis.
If ypu want or need max capacity or brag about the mfg and cost is no object lots of other choices.

YOu failed to say what you have six of "Batteries" .. well there are hundreds of possible batteries.
I"m going to guess you have six GC-2 class Six Volt batteries in a series parallel arrangement making one very very (660 amp hour) 12 volt battery.
I would recommend more of the same.. Sam's Club generally has the lowest price and though not necessarly the highest quality on the market they are decent (In fact #2 or 3 band) Costco, different label but same batteries as Sam's often a slightly higher price. but There are other reasons to support costco (They pay employees better).
I would not choose to shop Batteries Plus for assorte reasons including their batteries are, from what I understand from a different source and not as good...
WHat do I have? DEKA. (East Penn Battery) They replaced 9 year old interstate U-2200's and from what I've seen so far (4 years) they are Very Very Very good batteries I have G-20. a bit more power.
Strange thing.. I was able to lift the U-2200's (220 amp hours) in and out but the G-20's (230 amp hours) I can not lift them in.. had to have help.
