It would be nice if we could get enough DD owners to have a thread on the engine thread of the forum.

That would be great! Mine has a DD 6V92.

Wow from one gear head to another: you guys know your Detroit [Moderator Edit]. Btw we have a Holliday rambler with a 60 series. No comparison to the old "slobber tube" two cycles. We just returned from a 10,000 mile cross country trip in which the coach used "0" oil. Quite a change from the old coach we had that came with an 8V-71. We used to add a gallon of oil between trips. Btw there are lots of big motor homes out there with 60 series engines that can be had for little more than $110k. 60 series are million mile engines.

101,000 miles on my Series 60 Detroit and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. We're leaving this Saturday from Tuscon area for Alaska. I expect to make the trip with no trouble and will change the oil in OR on the way north.

If we had our own Detroit group on IRV2, what we we write about since the engine just works so well?

Good point. Operational and maintenance tips I suppose. I had to do a complete in-frame of my 6V92 due to lack of use and neglect by the PO. I've put on about 5,000 miles since then. Runs perfect and doesn't burn a drop of oil. Doesn't leak oil either. I want to make sure I keep it that way.

we also have a series 60 in our coach. It is a wonderful motor and certainly has plenty of power. We love it.

Had numerous 60 series in heavy trucks. Great engine, best imo. New DD13,15, and 16s still have limited availability. Just Freightliner and Western Star. May be a great engine. Wish they'd put em in KW, I'd switch out of my ISX Cummins engines and give them a try. Also, I don't know if they're available in MH's or not, but the D-13 Volvo is a great engine.

A good example of maintenance tip.......I recently installed a fuel savings device called " ugly fix". Mileage instantly went from 6.5 to 7.4. Mpg. Several of my friends with 60 series have installed it . After installation we drove 10,000 miles cross country with similar results. Small plug an play device that modifies the EGR valve operation. Look it up on Internet.

I also replaced the OEM starter motor that new is marginal ( Delco 42mt) with a geared starter motor made by Denso. Geared motor spins engine over very fast. Helps a lot when it is very cold out. Can't remember part number but look up Denso and they have a chart that will explain

American Coach is putting the DD 13 in some Eagles...that engine or an ISX.

Good to hear. Are most people happy with the engine? And sorry, my last sentence was regarding the D-13 Volvo. I didn't know if you could get them in a MH. I suspect not, because they are only available in volvo trucks. Great engine! But the old 60 series Detroit that disappeared in '05 was a tough engine. Not the most powerful, but least cost to run.
