I guess that the PenFed web site is lacking quite a bit in complete information. Sorry!

Yup, VISA cards are the same as cash, I agree.

Now can you tell me how many points does it take to receive a $100 VISA card, 2000 points or significantly more?

With the Sam's Club MasterCard for every $2000 spent on fuel, I get back $100.

Penfed cash back Visa gives me 5% rebate automatically every month credited to my bill for gas that I pay at the pump. Now Costco just switched to Visa, AND they let you use ANY visa card at their gas pump...so you get the lower Costco pump price, PLUS 5% rebate from Penfed...you can't beat it.

For all my other charges I use either my Capital One Quicksilver MC or my USAA Visa...each give me 1.5% back on every purchase. I just had to spend $10K on repairs...1.5% was a very nice rebate.

I've had the PenFed card for years and years. It is the best deal out there for gas purchases.

the BEST way: hope that diesel prices stay low!
... as compared to several years ago when pricing was near $4 or more, we are living in the lap of luxury!

I use the app GasBuddy/FuelBuddy to scout out potential pricing on my next route

I use my Wmt CC, which gives a additional 1% rebate(i.e. 2 cents), as a credit on your account
and
I use MurphyUSA/Walmart stations whenever it makes sense, since they give a 2% credit(i.e. 4 cents) when ALSO using their Wmt CC

: ) I never use truc k stops, they are too expensive no matter what credit or discount you are given

Hopefully not too of base on this topic. I like to accumulate and use flying miles at 1.25 miles per dollar. seems to me i get more return this way than the 4% back per gallon on the gas card. Which is better return?

...why would you comment on this as though it is someone's 'biggest worry'? It's just a question someone posed, though I think it might also be an indicator of how those of us who 'drive around in a class A DP' got here in the first place!

no worries

I like the pump start with Pilot CC at truck pumps. In and out quick. No hassle.

Do they still offer that card. I did not see it on their web page but I might have missed it.

I just looked and I don't see it either. Doesn't look like they still offer it. I also checked my PenFed statement, I am still receiving my 5% cash back but I wonder how long it will be until that gets changed?
When we first got the card in 2010 they gave 5% back on gas, 3% back on groceries, and 1% back on everything else. About a year later they changed it to 5% cash back on gas only. The other discounts went away.
Sign 'o the times, I guess....

LOL. I use the Costco visa 4% on Gas card. I found out something new last week when I went to use the rebate to buy groceries. The gal at the register asked if I wanted to cash in the rebate for "cash". She mentioned most folks do that so their current purchase adds to next years rebate amount. It was also nice to have that much cash in my wallet. I rarely have much cash anymore. I also use the Citi Double MasterCard, 2% cash back on all purchases. No limit. I occasionally go into the account and credit the amount toward the bill. -Bill

The "pure" 5% cash rebate card for fuel is no longer available. We've had it for about ten years now. When I called PenFed to ask if it will be taken away when the expiration date rolls around, they said that they "grandfather" cardholders who have cards that are no longer offered as long as they keep their account active and in good standing.

The great thing about this card called simply the PenFed "Cash Rewards VISA Platinum" card is that they give an "immediate" 5% cash credit for fuel purchases at the pump at each statement cycle. That means that you are essentially getting the 5% deducted instantaneously if you pay off your balance in full each cycle. There are no hoops to jump through or thresholds to meet that most rewards cards require ...as long as the card is used at the pumps.

We try to use it as much as possible for gas and diesel at Costco as they frequently have the best prices and have such huge fuel sales that you know it's fresh.

So those of you who may have this card but seldom use it, keep using it periodically so you can keep it going forward, it looks like the image below. Again, it's no longer offered but per the rep I talked to last year, it will keep being renewed for those who currently posses the card as long as they are in good standing. However, as baraff points out, that may not be the case ...only according to what I was told by the rep I talked to about it.
