Diesel Motor Home Insurance

I am looking into replacing my 2010 Bounder with a 2014 Tiffin Phaeton. My current insurance is with AAA. My agent told me AAA will not insure the Phaeton because of its value. In 2014, the Phaeton sold for $230,000 with a MSRP of $320,000. The agent said he would have to go with Progressive with a premium of $3170/yr. My Bounder, I am paying around $1000/yr. I can't believe the premium goes up three times when the value only goes up twice. Can anyone suggest an insurance company for diesel motor homes.

Have you tried Good Sams or GEICO?

I ended up with The Hartford through AARP. Can't comment on the claims service since I haven't had any.

Same here. Switched all insurance (home, cars, umbrella, MH) to Hartford AARP and saved over $1000 per year.

I looked up the NADA for a 2010 35' Bounder and average retail is $65,900. A 2014 36' Phaeton's value is $198,000 so the difference in value is more than three times, not two as you suggest. That's with no options checked. I can tell you that the biggest part of my insurance premium is liability insurance, not the property damage coverage (collision).

Good Sam quote for agreed value coverage is $1656/yr with $1000 deductible and $1780/yr with $500 deductible. A lot better then Progressive.

Went from 11 Bounder to 15 Discovery. Value more than doubled and so did premium. $1100 to 2200. Registration, maintenance, complexity, luxury went up too. Have never regretted it.
Went to $2500 deductibles from 1000, insurance went down 400 on premium. No accidents, cant remember last time.

Forgot, Progressive on RV and cars
Saved me thousands so far.
I'd self-insure if I could. Wasted 10s of thousands on insurance.

I went directly with Progressive, $200 a year less than booking with Progressive through GS and $400 less than National General.

Progressive has the diminishing deductible 25% per year with no claims 😉

Contact an insurance broker... Miller Insurance has a good reputation here on the forum. Give them a call and see what they can do for you.
