Diesel pusher engine without emissions controls

Starting my search for an older (2004-2008) Cummins diesel pusher and wondering when manufacturers were required to start installing emission controls on the engines. Thanks

What kind of controls?
2010 they added DEF.
In 2007 they added EGR and DPF.
My '02 ISC 350 had nothing.

Not doubting you but that means you have a 02 engine. The 03 ISL in my 04 Dynasty has EGR. I made sure my 08 Navigator had a 06 engine (Monaco bought up a bunch of extra 06 engines...NO DPF) and a "Ugly FIX" http://https://www.theuglyfix.com/ will delete the EGR.

You can take all the emission equipment and controls off. This is done quite a bit but you may have an issue when reselling.

The new engines are much better overall and will last a very long time so what are you going to save?

Well I was going with this document from Cummins website but I will have to put eyes on it to verify I suppose. The Document does also say 315HP and mine is advertised at 350 HP. https://www.cummins.com/engines/isc-epa-2004

My 2007 coach with dec 2006 engine build 400ISL has no EGR DPF.

I was under the impression the 425 and up ISL starting Jan 2007 engine builds were EGR and DPF.

ISMs and ISXs has EGR earlier? Not sure.

Brian

Cummins added EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) to most engines in 2003.
Thats engine year, not coach model year. Most 2003 coaches will have a 2002 engine.
(You may want to read about the "Ugly Fix" in this forum.)
DPF was added in 2007/2008.
Several coach manufacturers used 2006 engines in coaches through 2010 to avoid DPF.
Cummins added DEF to most engines in 2013.

The engine year and chassis year don't necessarily match on a Monaco coach because Monaco built the chassis themselves. They bought engines from Cummins, then installed them on the chassis. This is unlike some other manufacturers which may have bought a chassis from Freighliner or Spartan with the engine installed.

If looking at a Cummins 05-06 400hp check S/N for wrist pin problems.

Some of the confusion as to when egr was added to early 2000s engines is complicated by Cummins having emissions credits on some engines and not others, and when those credits expired. My 2003 built 400 ISL has no egr even though Cummins technically started putting them on that year engine. Cummins literature states a model year for certain emission devices, but it doesn't mean all engines in all sizes produced that year will have them. By 2008 or so, all the credits were spent and there is more consistency as to the devices being on all engines. Any 2010 or later engine should have erg, DPF, and DEF.
