Difficult budget TV lump box removal... '04 Newmar DP
My new to me used RV had prior modifications... it had the TV removed and a flat screen installed.... BADLY. So my mission is to try to remove the awful big box and replace it with a cabinet. The hard way.
It won't ever look pretty and you'll see why, and it's not been easy going... the left cabinet is larger than the right, the ceiling is slanted towards the front, the face of the cabinets are sloped on the front and the left cabinet is larger than the right side. I have my work cut out for me.
So here are the before and removal pictures... I'm actually halfway through installing the new cabinet but I was too perplexed figuring out how I would join the two cabinets that I forgot to take some of the in process pictures.
I am not a cabinet maker, so it won't look factory, but it will be serviceable and I don't want it to look dreadful like it did before.
This is the mess that I bought. Notice the TV cabinet has already been modified... the frame for the center cabinet is not even square.

So I started pulling it all apart... removed the box and you can see the black spray paint someone used to try to... I have no idea what they were actually trying to do, but they managed to paint some of the ceiling... my cabinet won't cover some of it, so hopefully some Goof Off or acetone will get most of it off.

I did miss a step... I have the front cavity by the blinds covered, and I messed that up with stain. Oh well. It looks bad, but I'll show pictures anyway. It's not an area that will really be seen or noticed, but no biggie.
I didn't save the cardboard templates I used to cut the fill in pieces.
If anyone has any good ideas on how to remove the paint, I'm all ears.
I'll post more pictures later tonight for everyone to laugh at.

Mike, I'm watching this with interest. I have exactly the same cabinet setup in my '02 DS, which I'm planning to modify to accommodate our new larger flatscreen. It's late now, more about my plan later.

I'm at the same stage as you. tv out and original box out. I've got a 32" Vizio to put in. I've made another box that is to be flush with the right side of the cabinet. This would also help avoid some of the head aches getting in the coach. I intend to wrap the outside of the box with some upholstery material. I'm still not sure about what screws to use to mount to the roof section. I have done a google search for "Motorhome tv replacements" and found several pics and tips for this.
Keep us posted on what you end up doing.

Hi folks ,
I did this project in my 2004 kountry star and yes all your observations on the cabinet build are correct...one side is farther out than the other so the cabinet face ends up a bit larger on 1 end than the other if you build a cabinet face it's a project! Mine had a flat screen mounted between the two cabinets on a surface mount .... it was attached to a piece of wood that the prior owner ran between the two cabinets (iit was hidden by the tv) and attached it to the cabinets it did work except it was hard to see the tv from an angle due to the cabinets being in the way. We ended up mounting a 42" over the window behind the passenger seat works much better. But that'sa different story lol
Long story short the cabinet was build ableby an novice just difficult. II'lltry to post some pics tuesday.
if you have specific questions please feel free to ask.

p.s. I used pieces of the old cabinet padded sides and bottom to make the new cabinet ends for the right and left overhead cabinets so it matched.

Pretty much what I did with the '02 DSDP, except I made the TV lift up and had lots of padded storage behind the new LED unit. I replaced with metal box with plywood and new vinyl on the outside, then carpeted the inside.
I took pictures but my card in the cell phone went bad before I transferred them to the computer and I guess they went into never-never land.
